I have been on benzos for about 27 years now, my new Pdoc thinks that Klonopin (3 mgs. a day) may be the reason for my TR depression and wants me to slowly taper off of it. I have gotten down to 2 mgs. a day now for about a week and i do believe i am feeling a bit better. Anyone agree that klonopin could be a major contributor to my depression?

I've been on Klonopin for about 4 years now. I started at 1mg day and over the years, have had to increae it. I don't notice that it makes me more depressed. If I don't take it I am more depressed but that could just be because the anxiety becomes worse if I lower it and that makes the depression worse.

Need new meds for anxiety that really work and don't cause the late poop out and not an antipsychotic something that affects gaba. I'm beginning to feel that therphy is the answer. Maybe. Phillipa

Yes it can. I came off 4 mg cold turkey and it helped. It was replaced by Seroquel so I didn't go through a really bad withdrawal.

But then what did you do about the anxiety? I think I can tolerate the depression better then the horrible feeling of too much adrenaline surging through my body at all times. And the Klonopin stops that. My anxiety is not the worrying kind. It's a physical anxiety where I am totally scared, not worried.Marsha

Valium is what works somewhat for me but not the relaxation had 35 years ago. Oh well better than nothing have to work at the theraphy with my PHD whose specialty is anxiety. Phillipa

>uh huh so im not the only one that has that feeling of too much adrenaline. I keep trying to explain it to doctors but they never get it.

Hi Marsha,
My anxiety is/was more of the physical side than psychological rumination, though there was a little of that too. I am also on Nardil which pretty much wiped out the anxiety, or at least brought it down to levels that I can handle. I think it also made quitting the clonazepam easier. I have some Ativan now for PRN use, but I have never used it, or felt I needed to.
