Thank God for Lyrica!

Posted by SteelyDan on January 18, 2008, at 14:01:32

Lyrica is by far my favorite medication. The only problem is i tend to develop tolerance to it so i have to quit taking it periodically so that it continues to work for me. I take 700 mgs. daily and it just gives me such a warm soothing feeling..kind of euphoric, but not too much. I wish it would work all the time, i have to go a week on then a week off etc.

I think your strategy of 1 week on 1 week off is a good one. I hate to be the wet blanket, but I took as much as 1200mgs, but usually 900mgs/day for an extended period. Also experienced the warm soothing, euphoric feeling. It helped the anxiety and my sleep. Adn my thought was "Hey, I'm not on an addictive benzo, this stuff is great".

But then because of side effects, I had to taper off. Far worse withdrawal than any benzo, any drug, ever. And it went on for weeks and weeks. There isn't much published about Lyrica tolerance, depndence, or withdrawal, but my guess is that there will be in the next few years.

But if it helps you, by all means, keep using it. If you can handle the week on week off routine you won't have to worry about going through what I did at all.

I don't know anything about Lyrica. What is it. What is used for. What does it do. How did your journey lead you to it.

It's used for many things. I'm actually on it for Diabetic neuropathy, but it definity improves my mood..it works as an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety med for me. It is also an anti-seisure medication. For me it's like a wonder drug!! The only bad thing like i said is that i build tolerance to it rather quickly.

Aren't low doses better for anxiety and high doses for energy? Love Phillipa

For me High doses help both anxiety and gives me energy. But you are correct..low doses do help reduce anxiety.

Hi,

Just wondering what dose of Lyrica you started on. I have tried it for about two weeks and was up to about 300mg but it just seemed to make me feel still depressed but a bit more relaxed?

Thanks....Denise

Yes i did, but don't give up on it , when you get to a higher dose it really kicks in. I almost gave up on it because initially it made me tired. When i pushed the dose up i got the energizing effect. Good Luck!

Anyone else hate the Lyrica commercial where that whiny lady reads from her journal about her fibromyalgia as much as I do? Every time I see it I change the channel. Cecilia
