Nardil INSOMNIA -bad

Posted by Justherself54 on December 10, 2007, at 8:14:23

I already take clonazapam, zopiclone and seroquel at bed. I increased the seroquel nite before last and slept like a log, yet last nite I did the same and was in that drowsy mode but aware of everything going on around me and kept completly waking up every couple of hours...

I can't take trazadone as it knocks me out the whole next day and I felt like I had the worst hangover in the world..the lowest doses of TCA's do the same.. I don't want to go off Nardil cause it's working..but I'm starting to feel really irritable which isn't a good sign for me, cause it usually means a hypomania and I don't get the nice euphoric ones..I turn into a self-isolating argumentative troll..

I've already googled it..but because I'm already on so many sleep aids..wondering if anyone had some words of wisdom for me!

I wish i could have found something for the insomnia, in the end i think it drove me crazier than the hypotension and constant fainting. Even when i did find a couple things that worked i would just feel like crap the next day anyway. Seroquel worked like u mentioned, 2 tablets of rohypnol also worked but it's not the sort of thing i would want to take frequently enough that i could sleep enough nights to be comfortable.

Would it make sense to drop the Nardil dose back a fraction and keep on with such sleep meds as suit you and you have found helpful?

And then see what happens?

I'm just so enjoying the benefits of the dose I'm on now..I have no hypotension..just the insomnia..spoke to pdoc today and I'm going to increase the seroquel to 50 mg tonite and see it that helps..this is the first med that gotten me close to feeling "normal"..so I'm reluctant to reduce the dosage..but can't let the insomnia get too bad as I also have fibromyalgia and sleep loss can play havoc with it..feeling a little frustrated as I certainly don't want to discontinue nardil..

Upping my dose of seroquel seemed to do the job..I slept for 12 hours..must have played catch-up last nite..

You could ask your doc what he thinks of skipping dosed. Personally i don't find it causes a problem and the maintenence dose can be as low as taking it every second day anyway. When i skip a dose i don't have any adverse reactions, it just makes me sleep for about 14hours.. i can go about 3-4days off nardil without feeling any different and then restart it without it seeming like i ever stopped. But my problems when not on meds arn't severe enough that im in trouble off them which is why i took the risk of skipping doses. If you are going to spiral back into a deep depression then i wouldn't reccomend it.

Thought seroquel had solved the insomnia problem, so 12 hours one nite and wide awake at 3 a.m. this morning..getting frustrated and concerned..I'm don't want to increase the seroquel dosage again..don't know what to do from here..

What dose and how long have u been on the nardil?
After 7 weeks on 30mg for me the sleep was improving but i put the dose up to 45mg and crashed from hypotension. A trick that also worked for me was to take the nardil dose during the night when you wake up, i would take 1 before bed as 1 tablet seems to make me sleep (2 or more at a time keep me awake) and then when i woke up 2 or 3 hours later take 1 more tablet and i would eventually fall to sleep again.

I'm taking 45 mg..I take 15 mg early am, again at noon and then about 4 pm..insomnia hit about a week and a half ago..I've played around with taking the dosage at different times, but it doesn't seem to make any difference..will have to call pdoc again..3 hours of sleep after upping seroquel..good grief!
