F*ck*ng Doctor wouldn't give me Deplin!

Posted by King of Nothing on November 2, 2007, at 17:29:48

Went to my pdoc today and presented him with some good information about Deplin (He had never heard of it). I asked him if i could try it and he said no, he would have to look into it further. It's a f*ck*ng food product...absolutely 100% safe!! So he wants me back in 2 weeks...every time i see him (for 10 mins) it costs me $112.00 out of pocket as he doesn't accept Medicare. I'm so Pissed!!!!!

Monte why what was his reasoning? Well you could get the other kind online. Why do you have to pay out of pocket? I thought NC was bad. I'm so sorry. Love Phillipa

I'm sorry your Dr disappointed you. I know from firsthand experience how frustrating such visits can be, but if you were in his place and knew that there was always the possibility that any potential therapy could potentially have an adverse impact on its recipient, would you prescribe it prior to researching it for yourself? Of course, the truth is that if physicians were really interested in providing the best possible service for their patients, no patient would ever be able to bring up a medication that a Dr was entirely unfamiliar with. Perhaps it's time some of us go back to school...

King,
if I were you and I was paying for each visit, can you call him and ask him if he read the info? Then ask him if it would be something that might be helpful and if he says yes, could he call the script into the pharmacy. You really don't have to see him for something like that, but if he's a pain in the keester, he might insist on seeing you.

My pdoc asked me today if I wanted to go on deplin, as I gave him the info at my last visit. I told him the endocrinologist is having my homocysteine level checked to determine if i am deficient in folate. That was something new I learned. Homocysteine level is a more accurate indicator of folate level. If it is high it means you are probably deficient in folate

I spoke to the pharmacist at Walgreen's the other day and asked her if they had Deplin. She said it was listed on their formulary but she would have to order it. The cost was around $60 for 30 pills.

Good luck with your f'ing pdoc!

Why all the swear words?! I used to swear heaps, but find it distasteful now. For intance, if I bumped over a chair or something in my room, I would say 'F#@k', but, now, i say 'Fudge'.

Swear words just sound too cheap

Am i too old fashioned?!

I take a different prescription methylfolate, MetanX. I think we are paying out of pocket, although it's hard to be sure because a thirty day supply seems to cost about our co-pay for brand name drugs. It's about $25 dollars.

Just another option, if the cost is an issue.
