I just needed to know how lithium effects you.
Do you lose weight on it? or gain weight?
And is lithium really a hard core drug? like haldol.

The tendency is definitely to gain weight on lithium. I don't think it's as _hardcore_ as some would say but it usually is recommended to have blood tests at least every six months to check both levels and any kidney abnormalities.
I've been on it before w/o any noticable side effects. I did gain some weight though...

It's a salt and weight gain is common. Overtime, it wears out your thyroid and you can become hypothyroid which also causes weight gain.
Nausea was my biggest problem when I took it.
Lithium is not hard core. People associate it with "manic depression" (old school) and make a big deal out of it.
It has saved many lives.

In the good old days my ex father in law was on it for manic depression at the time. He did gain weight but it kept away the mania and he's still alive in Florida on meds don't know what ones now. But he sure was different on lithium. Phillipa
