Cymbalta,,how potent on norepinephrine reuptake

Posted by Ftlmatt30 on October 25, 2007, at 0:07:36

i am currently taking 60mg. of cymbalta a day..it is the only antidepressant i have taken over the past 8 years that has helped with my depression
anyways, the question i had was how potent is cymbalta at blocking the reuptake of norepinephrine compared to the older Tricyclic antidepressants and also Staterra?
does it affect norepinephrine more or less than those other ones?

Though I could never go beyond a few weeks with Cymbalta, glad to have one with good benefits with it.

Cymbalta inhibits both serotonin and norepinephrine at the same rate. ie. it does this job even at low doses just like imipramine like tricyclics.

Mishal do you mean same rate as TCA's??? I also first time tolerated cymbalta. Second time couldn't wonder why guess chemistry was different. Phillipa

forgot to tell you. in the chart the less is the IC50 the more potency is - it might be very misleading.

Supposedly 6:1 5HT to NE but that's just an in vitro statistic I think. Its a medication that takes a subtle long path to work but is in my opinion a much less harsh agent than Effexor. Still everyone differs.
