I have been researching different places to purchase Provigil 200 mg #90. I have a prescription from my doctor. My insurance won't cover it because I haven't been diagnosed with sleep apnea. My doctor prescribes it for my depression. Samples of it have proven effective. I was going to buy from Canada but they have different manufacturers that I'm unfamiliar with. One being Modafinil, another is Alertec and Vigicer. I understand that they are made in different countries. The one I've been using is made by Cephalon but it's so expensive. Can anyone give me advice?

Advice? Yes -- ask your doctor to contact the insurance company. Many doctors have a lot of experience with that -- calling for prior authorization for medications. It's a pain in the you-know-where, but those doctors that are willing to do it are usually experienced in doing it effectively.
If not, check http://www.needymeds.com/ to see if Cephalon has a patient assistance program you qualify for.

Unfortunately, my doctor has tried to get approval from my insurance company already. I have to have a current diagnosis of sleep apnea and use a C-pap machine - which I don't. So they denied the approval. Supposedly Cephalon, who makes Provigil, has been approved of a new medication that is similar called Nuvigil. This one states that one of the things it helps with is severe depression. Have you heard of this medication yet?

Nuvigil was recently approved, but it has the same indications as does Provigil. They are planning to do clinical trials with respect to depression, specifically bipolar depression, I think. But they're not there yet.
Alertec is the same drug as Provigil, only the Canadian supplier is Shire Pharmaceuticals. Cephalon didn't develop modafanil, but they did take over the patents for it, in the U.S. There are many international brands of modafinil.

You can buy 90x200mg of modafinil for about $120. Use mysimon or shopping.com to find the right price.

But I was never told it was a controlled substance... So I developed tolerance...
These drug companies never cease to amaze me! I always wondered why the price has never dropped; we pay 40 bucks co-pay..... And when my husband's insurance changed -he went to pick up my refill of Provigil and they would not cover it--Just like that! And believe me , at high doses you do not just quit taking it.
My doc knew yrs ago that it was less expensive in the 200 mg than the 100mg so she said just split it...I just saw a coupon ad for it online somewhere......maybe even the FDA website.
Never thought I would suggest this, but,,it is also indicated for shift work disorder or something like that...
I'll be weaning off of it soon cuz my doc wants me to have a sleep study and there is no way. I am glad: it does nothing for mood-- headache and ANXIETY are the dose-related side effects listed on the so-called patient info sheet.Something has been "going on" in the past 2 yrs or so......Drs seem to have backed off some high price meds; even pharmacist suddenly refused to let me have script more than a day or two early...... Sorry to ramble.....don't think most drugs are worth the price we pay for them.
I got a sample of the new sleep med Rozeram and the box stated something like: drug substance made in Japan: drug product made in Ireland-for TAP pharmaceuticals......(I know something about Abbott and TAP or Takeda,...merging or being connected somehow)
Provigil did help with physical "energy"
It DOES work but I would take drug vacations. I started at 100 mgs and now 600mgs does nothing much...at least not to justify the cost..I think it must effect dopamine and norepin. based on MY side effects......florence
