Would You Take Providgil if Anxiety Disorder?

Posted by Phillipa on September 4, 2007, at 23:09:01

I do have an anxiety disorder but am always tired. Will this med aggravate anxiety? PTSD is what the doc is saying old one always said it. Seeing pdoc tomorrow. Thanks Phillipa

Hi Phillipa, I noticed a slight increase in anxiety and depression for the first 2 or 3 days after adding Provigil to my Emsam. I compensated with a little Xanax.

After those initial days, there was a marked improvement in original levels of both anxiety and depression.

I hope that makes sense. What I mean is, the Provigil ultimately helped focus, concentration, and motivation, plus there was a lessening of anxiety and depression.

It seems likely that these benefits are due to the Emsam combination, and that with Provigil alone I may have had a totally different experience?

Provigil helped my focus but caused a very slight increase in anxiety and more noticeably, increase in depression. ESPECIALLY during the comedown hours at night.

Next time she wouldn't prescribe it for me but I got a brochure on it that says very good for shift workers to take an hour before work. Side effects not serious may be some anxiety, insomnia, gastro the usual. Next time I see her I want to try it and will be more adamant. Phillipa

Probably but I think my first experiment will be iced coffee as I can't drink coffee but at certain times in my life I could drink a pot and no anxiety and for some reason iced coffee with milk I could usually tolerate. Haven't tried in years. Thanks Phillipa
