Hi, I hear that Remeron is associated with increased appetite and weight gain due to its antihistaminergic effects.
My question, is the weight gain a result of the increased appetite? Or is it similar to SSRI-induced type weight gain where diet doesn't seem to matter?
I guess, what I want to know is, anyone who gained weight on Remeron even when there were NO diet/exercise changes?Thanks!!

nikkizeta, never tried Remeron but what I've heard it stimulates appetite. I've tried effexor (SNRI) and I found it to stimulate appetite but zoloft (SSRI)did not.

> Thanks!!Yup. I've always done my own cooking, so I'm totally into the portion size thing, and I made no changes in intake or exercise, yet I gained an average of 2/3 of a pound per day. That is not a typo.

I just found a post I made in 2004, at which time I reported a weight gain of 32 pounds in about 6 weeks.

I was eating normally (for me), and taking Remeron. How it worked its magic, is beyond my comprehension.

Lar anything that can put weight on you that fast cannot be healthy for you. Arteries, stress on joints, ability to do the things you used to do. Plus having to buy new clothes. Did it lessen depression for you or do anything positive for you? Do you take it no more and if not how long were you on it and was it for sleep or depression. Thanks Phillipa

You know at one time I tried remeron l5mg for sleep along with benzos and seroquel all in the hospital for some reason my brain no matter what is given to me only allows me to sleep 4-5 hours wake up and take the remainder of 5mg of valium that I save for wake-up. And I took the l5mg of remeron for over a month didn't gain an ounch or sleep better so just stopped it. How come I can just stop meds and don't get all these horrible side effects others here report. My goodness took cymbalta over three month went to 30mg for a week or two and then stopped . Nothing? I guess I'm really wierd. Phillipa

The weight is less at higher dosages, oddly enough. But I didn't stay on it long enough to find out. Plus it sedated me too much.
