I had read a while ago someone who posted about having a great anti-depressant effect from Memantine. There was also a recent study (non-controlled) which seemed to be positive based on a 3 week trial of dosage up to 40mg. I tried it for 3 weeks- didn't get the dosage up that high. It gave me insomnia which always boosts my mood anyway (lack of sleep).
Anyone out there had good or bad experiences with Memantine? If positive, how long did it take to kick in? I'm just wondering if my trial was long enough.
Thanks for any help!

I have been on it for a few months and I like it. Anti-anxiety and good anti-depressant effects for me.
It took a good 2-3 weeks to really get going.
What dosage did you get up to?
Did you have any side effects other than insomnia? Seems to help my sleep.I ususally take 5mg mid day and 5-10 at bedtime.

Thanks for the response Kaye. I got up to 20 mg per day. Noticed some constipation. Maybe I should give it another try for longer. Are you on anything else? How did you end up trying Memantine?

It's great to hear of positive stories about Memantine--I'm considering trying it myself. May I ask what side-effects those of you have tried it have experienced? Any cognitive ones? Anything which seriously interrupted your lives?

I mostly take it before bed now but I sometimes noticed a short bout of drowsyness followed by improved mood and clarity. Slightly rapid heartrate (for maybe 1/2 hr)Great anti-anxiety effects.
