Pls list any activ ADs that I can take with Paxil

Posted by AdamCanada on July 20, 2007, at 20:49:48

I been taking 10mg paxil for around 3-4 years after about a 1 year period of trying out over a dozen different medications with many not working for making me feel worse i was put on paxil and after some weeks I began to feel better. No longer was my strong accutane depression feeling like complete hell each and every waking moment. I was able to start functioning again and able to go back to highschool.

I've tried zoloft, celexa, effexor, vivarint, wellbutrin, zyprexa, risperidal, moclobemide, modafinil, adrafinil, ritalin, dexedrine, nortyptiline, xanax, remeron and several others.

My clinical depression was caused by accutane vitamin A overdose.

My symptoms: Lifeless, low energy, low drive, low motivation, low interests, low emotions, self doubt, social anxiety (the social anxiety helped greatly by paxil and ativan but still persists).

So many SSRI's and other meds blunt our emotions and I dont want that kind of feeling. I WANT emotions. I am sick of feeling only half alive.

Aside from strong depression I have always had strong social anxiety and paxil has helped for that too. But this paxil is not enough and I tried taking higher doses and that just makes me sleep all the time.

So please give me some options of what I can add to the paxil. I am so sick of living an uneventful boring dull unexciting life where Nothing interests me. Preferably something activating perhaps?

Just recommend anything thanks.

Have you tried augmenting Paxil with Wellbutrin? That might be a helpful option.

On the other hand, Paxil left me the flatest of all the ADs I've tried. That's why I finally went off it, in fact. It's possible that you might find another AD less suppressive of emotions.

On the gripping hand, if Paxil works for you, but you're experiencing some fatigue, adding Wellbutrin might be enough to tip you over the hump.

Good luck.

You could lower the paxil. Or perhaps change to a more activating SSRI such as zoloft or prozac. Even celexa might be more activating. You might even try a switch to effexor.

Low dose b12 supplementation in the morning may also help.

Failing that, you could augment with the following:

Wellbutrin, provigil, caffiene, ritalin/amphetamine, nortryptaline, protryptaline, selegiline (low dose), etc.

For instance, switching to a zoloft/wellbutrin combination, would replace the SSRI action of paxil, with norepinephrine/dopaine reuptake between the zoloft and wellbutrin.

Infact, wellbutrin and zoloft are both dopamine reuptake inhibitors. The combination can be effective in people who fail either drug alone.
