Why is my doctor worried so much?

Posted by Squiggles on July 6, 2007, at 17:54:49

I'm going through a tough time, yes--
the possible break up of a long marriage,
and the medical worries, and the secrets,
but i'm handling it well. The first three
weeks were heart-breaking, now i'm just disoriented emotionally until i know what is
going on. I am human after all. If I knew a bit more about where I stand i might feel better.

My doctor is worried so much-- all this increase
in meds. Why? Fortunately, I can take it or leave it. I appreciate if the kindness, but some piece of info. must be missing that i don't get.

Do doctors usually get worried over their patients in crises? I find additions of tranqs more depressing not less. I don't have anxiety, i have situational grief.

The lithium is great!

An increase in clonazepam, which i really do not
need as they depress me physically and emotionally.
I suppose such a threat and the suspense of not knowing, may be an alarm bell to suicide for the doc. It's OK-- i think i'll make it. Unfortunately, my x is not making it easy on me; but that may be due to unresolved medical problems. Heck, you got react a little bit right? Almost 30 years of devoted service and care.

Not necessarily; doctor leaves decision to my
discretion according to reaction. I'll let you
know how it goes.

BTW, i have wondered if you are one of Dr. Bob's
deputies? You know so much pharmacology.

Squggles boy that's a laugh. No and don't want to be one too much stress. Don't know much about meds just what they do to me or others that I know or the patients I used to care for when working as an RN. Love Phillipa

An RN? A psychiatric RN? you don't have
answer if it's private.

I was one til out on Disability. Loved my job. And I grieve daily that I won't be able to nurse again in psych or anywhere. Still active license but the hospitals here require school if havedn't nursed in five years. The North Carolina Board of Nursing I called and they said not true till 2008. But hospitals can set their own policies. They want about four months on the computer then a month of med/surg my back won't allow it and then a month of full time psych before parttime which is what I want now does this make sense? They say psych nursing has gotten bad I have no idea. Love Phillipa

I didn't realize the qualifications were so
demanding. I sympathize with your position;
it's so hard to give up a career you love.
Perhaps there is another way/state/position?

In the meantime, your contributions here are
significant and generous. I'm sure a lot of people
are glad to have you; i am.

Take care
