effexor xr to cymbalta?

Posted by valleedoll on July 6, 2007, at 13:52:51

after 6+ years on effexor xr, my cholesterol has shot up way too high and i'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on switching to cymbalta (or any other SNRI drugs: major depression + panic.)

THANKS!

Hi valleedoll,

Regarding comparisons between the two, all I know is that Cymbalta is supposed to effect both serotonin and norepinephrine at lower doses whereas Effexor primarily hits serotonin at lower doses, requiring a higher dose to affect norepinephrine.

Best of luck!

THANKS! A doctor friend suggested lexapro - I'm just scared of changing meds b/c of withdrawal, but with the high cholesterol, I have to get off effexor.
