is there still somebody on Librium or is that drug totally outdated in the us, uk, etc.

I think in the us when valium came out in the 60's it replaced librium. Haven't heard of it being used since my Father long gone took it. Love Phillipa

Librium became unavailable in Australia a few years ago.

it is still used in the UK, not sure if the brand is available I know Roche sold the rights, probably to ICN or Valeant. It is mainly used for alcohol detoxification as an outpatient. Inpatients at least where I am get diazepam.

Hi James
The brand 'Librium' is still available in the UK but not at NHS expense. The patient must pay for the brand via a private prescription if they want it. Almost everyone takes generic chlordiazepoxide caps......which are, of course, available on the NHS.

Have you ever noticed how the BNF states that chlordiazepoxide base is equivalent to chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride. This would only be the case if the dose of the hydrochloride salt was equivalent to the same number of milligrams of the base. As it is on everything else, i.e. i think it is something like 22.8mg (I cant be bothered working it out at the moment) is the equivalent of 20mg of paroxetine. Howver, with chlordiazepoxide I have never seen the same thing, probably because I have not myself seen the 1000 cap or tab containers. Do you know if they are really equivalent i.e there is more than 5mg of chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride in a capsules or a tablet. I once tried to argue it with a pharmacist in Boots, got as far as mentioning stiochiometry and she did not have a clue what I was talking about.

librium was replaced by prazepam (pfizer) 36.45 dollar 20mg 50 pcs. (non us)
