Concerta how different is it from Ritalin?

Posted by AdamCanada on June 28, 2007, at 18:17:42

Ritalin for me loses effectiveness if I take it too often also it causes a lot of weightloss.

How is Concerta different?

Ritalin has been a short term miracle for me for my social anxiety and depression lack of interests, lack of motivation etc.

It's a bad idea to use amphetamines for social anxiety/depression. Sure, they might make you temporarily feel better, but so will ecstasy and cocaine.

Hi Adam,

I'm taking Concerta for residual symptoms of bipolar depression. It helps a great deal, especially with anhedonia.

Concerta is a long acting methylphenidate compound, say 10-12 hours. I have no crash or anxiety related to it and it did not stop working.

Good luck with it!

Just my own experience here:

I've taken Ritalin for a while, and recently switched to Concerta. In the beginning, when I first switched, I had headaches -- just like the headaches I got when I first started taking Ritalin. They've gone away now, just as they did when I started taking Ritalin.

Just in case you experience something funky, and wonder why, since it's the same basic drug. I thought there was a problem, but apparently the different mechanism of release is enough to start some adjustment phase issues...
