SSRI's or others making things MUCH worse?

Posted by becksFLA on June 27, 2007, at 11:30:51

It all started out as social anxiety. Literally came out of NOWHERE in a matter of months. Prior to that, no meds my entire life, no problems with anything. After that my first drug was Paxil, which didn't work, and I went on to take about every SSRI ever made, then moving on to other classes of drugs. Just about every one infact. Now I'm on lithium, klonopin...I don't believe I need the lithium, but it seems to have helped my anxiety, which I'm not even positive about. I don't have bipolar disorder, just taking it because my parents believe it helps my decision making and makes me less "irritable".

So I'm constantly going on so many different drugs, closing in on probably 50 or 60 now, just wondering if it's all worth it. Sometimes I wish I had a year to go off everything and see if everything levels out for me. I think it would.

Sorry about your struggle. How old were you when you got "hit"? How long have you been doing the med rollercoaster? I don't really have any answers or advice, but I can definitely relate.

Some people can go off meds, but it seems like most do worse without them. A lot of meds have made me worse, and at one point this year I did try to do no meds. I felt slightly improved for a little while because the meds I was one were making me worse, but I didn't last long on nothing. Back on the trial-and-error game, mixing things, some that I've already tried. If you think lithium is helping with the anxiety, I would personally stay on it.

Take care & good luck.
