Oral Selegiline: What is the safest dose?

Posted by Mishal on June 27, 2007, at 8:53:04

Sorry, Emsam is not available here. So, I want to try oral selegiline. I stopped taking prozac and may be trying selegiline after a few days (hopefully, most of prozac will be out of my system within then).

My question is: What is the safest antidepressant dose? I don't think I have to be on a high dose that may trigger hypertensive crisis. But for mild to moderate symptoms of depression, what dose do you suggest?

One more question: Can I take selegiline with Benzos?

I don't think Selegiline will cause a hypertensive crisis but mixing it at doses above like 5mg or 10mg (I think, please research)may cause one when taken with tyramine containing foods or drinks might.

Google deprenyl or selegiline and you will get loads of info. Many people report good effects at 1-5 mg per day. The liquid seems to be preferred.

It is my understanding that with the pills the troublesome MAOI properties (tyramine sensitivity, etc.) do not mainifest until 15mg....

You will get some sort of effect from 5mg/d, but that might not be your idea of an AD effect.
It should be give you some energy though.

Deprenyl citrate is a better effect than selegeline, and is available from online pharmacies.
You need less of that, perhaps because it is taken under the tongue.

If you only take a little deprenyl or selegeline you should not have any problems with what little Prozac is left in you.

Yes, you can take selegeline and deprenyl with benzos.
