Nefazodone is really one of the more interesting meds to come along in the 90's. Too bad it got yanked from the shelves here in Canada. If it's a good drug and you are doing well on it, why do you want to stop?

thanks jay: in answer to your question about why i want to stop: altho i have not had many side effects, i think its use has lessened the number of available hours in the day, for me. eg: after i take it at 8pm. i need to lie down fairly shorly thereafter and i have trouble waking up fully in the am before about 8. iaf.

Heck I just had a pdoc prescribe it for me in the states and because of the liver things I went off it. So you're saying it's a good med? Love Phillipa figures I always screw everything up. And how high a dose did you take til depression eased up and anxiety too and sleep. Thanks so much. As the other pdoc said it's never too late to switch back if the luvox doesn't work.

It's been banned by the FDA and Health Canada
(others?) because of cases of fatal liver failure.
What exactly are we supposed to believe with drugs?
Sometimes I think that there is warp in clinical trials and statistical reports that sucks up all true cases.

I've lived in semi-fear for decades on lithium when i first started reading the horror stories, and now i'm just bored to indifference by the lack of fatal results--no kidney failure, no heart disease, no thyroid nodules, no tardive dyskinesia, how come?

Well, as one doctor said to me..if you go through a bottle or two of booze a day, yes there will be liver problems. He said the simplest thing to do would be regular blood tests like they do for Tegretol(sp?) I absolutely have no authority to say you should or shouldn't take the drug, but yes, your doctor can monitor you for problems if you decide to take it. It worked *wonders* for me in combo with Effexor XR. I slept well, and my sex drive was right back to normal. Now, here in Canada, you can't get the stuff anywhere, unless you live by the border, and get your doc to prescribe it. This drug also happens to work wonders in treating Autism and ASD's. I work part of my day with kids in an Autism program, and there are a couple of doctors here in town we refer families to who will prescribe it for people who go over the border. I believe it is that 5-HT2a receptor that is implicated in some of Autism's symptoms.

Hello, I am a 37 year old male, I have been on 200mg a day of Nefazodone since 1997 - It was at that time the only thing that worked for me, it still does. I am also having my liver tested every 4 to 6 months and thankfully all is well thus far after 10 years. Hope the generic never goes off the market, cuase for people like me, this is the RIGHT medicine. It was never BANNED by the FDA, The Brand Name Serzone was voluntarily recalled by Bristol Myers Squibb - Generic is just as good and available.

I'm really glad you replied with your history. Still an option with me. So how high is your dose can you tell your story of side effects and the important stuff. Thanks so much Phillipa

Hi again, in 1997 I started out at 50mg in the morning, 50 mg in the evening - Usually you take it 12 hours apart, I take it at 11:00 AM and 5:00pm as I get reved very easy before bed. After 2 weeks I went up to 75mg in the AM and 75mg in the PM - After
2 more weeks I went to the full 100mg tablet in the AM and the 100mg in the PM and have NEVER gone higher for the last 10 years. The side effects I felt werenot traumatic, I mean I would feel a little light headed or off balance maybe an hour or so after each dose at first, or a little nausea, or faster heartbeat for an hour - AGAIN nothing really scary, and after a few weeks to a month they went away and my body adjusted, and I could feel the benefit of no panic attacks, more upbeat and starting to sleep better, less dreaming, better appetite etc. I was in a MAJOR Depressive Episode, and really 200mg a day did well, I should of taken 300 to 600mg. But each person is differen't, and for me the magic medicine was Nefazodone at 200mg - I consider 200mg a day not super low, but not high either, but I am willing to take it forever as long as my liver is ok, which it has been for 10 years. Cuase I do not get panic attacks, and when I get depressed from real life stress, I don't get as low as I used to that contributed to my Major Depression. It helped with my PTSD also. Again other than the very low RARE liver side effect versus all the people that have taken this Medicine and still do like me, I think it really is a decent medication.
Sincerely - Nefazodone Man

Thanks so much so the morning dose didn't make your tired? Were you on benzos like me at bedtime? As after 35years would love to get off them and be happy again. I used to be such a happy person. Still have the script here as it was only prescribe a couple of months ago. But stupid me was so panic stricken about the liver thing that I didn't continue with that or that pdoc. I think I may have goofed again. Love Phillipa

Dear, if your worried tell your Doctor to monitor your liver. I am sure he will along the way, if your Enzymes got like 2 to 3 times higher than the upper limit of normal, then they stop it. That is all - Talk it over with your Doctor. - TEVA manufactures the Nefazodone I take

Best Wishes, Nefazodone Man
