Abilify side effects

Posted by tgo on June 15, 2007, at 21:48:34

I am considering trying Abilify and am interested in people's experiences with this drug. Any weight gain or side effects? I would be using it for mild bipolar.

Abilify created profound akathisia in me. Everyone is different though, and if the med really helps, there are ways to fight through the akathisia(more meds).
Good luck,

I just starte don it at 2 mg. Today is my fourth day on it. I actually got up early this morning and that is unusual for me. I have had a bit more get up ang today but no anxiety. I take it before bed and notice a slight headache for the first few hrs. Nothing bad.

I am hoping for a little motivation, some pep.

What would you be treating with abilify?

Best of luck to you!
Kaye

should I increase to 4mg?

Boy, wouldn't I like that.

I have been taking it before bed but last night (4th day) it made me restless so I will begin taking it morning.

I am only on 2 mg and it is causing me no trouble and it may be helping a little bit with energy but not much yet.

Should I go up to 4mg? Any advice?

Thanks!
Kaye

Go to 5mg..or if 2mg tabs go to 4. It works best at higher doses depending on diagnosis and other meds. If ok with doc give it a try.

Thanks Greif.

Are you taking or have taken abilify?

I have been on it a week and it has interfered a tad with my sleep but no weird restlessness. I am a tiny bit more motivated.

I think I will tolerate a bit more just fine.

Take Care,
Kaye

I started at 2.5mg daily. I felt side effects for 5 days. Insomnia, weird acid feeling in stomach and a bit spaced out. It goes away. I am now on 5 mg and went througt the same. I will go to ten next week and that is supposed to be easier since your body chemistry is acclimated toward it. It is great. Very stablizing. Quite taking lexapro/celexa after 10 years. Overall vey pelased. It still causes a bit of insomnia. I take 200 mg of Neurontin at night and it knocks me out and .5 mg of clonazapam during the day to couter side effects. Hang in there.

Abilify side effects - sleepy, withdrawn...anyone?

I just started 2.5/day of Abilify for mild bipolar. I was supposed to start at 5mg, but I know I'm really sensitive to side effects and such so I halfed the dose to start.

I took it at night the first night and had a really restless night. The following day I was really drowsy. I took it in the morning today (didn't take it yesterday since i took it the night before) and have been really sleepy off and on all day. I've also felt kind of emotionally blunted (not in a good way--like I still have anxiety, but with the thoughts and just not the feelings) and withdrawn (less social), a little nauseous, etc.

Has anyone had a similar experience, and does it go away after awhile?

Has anyone felt the same thing?

I felt that way but slightly the first couple of days. I started at 2mg and after a week I'm on my second night taking 5mg.

I had a really good day today so I'm gonna stick with it.

I took it before bed last night and slept like a rock. The 2 mg seemed to interrupt my sleep more but also i may just be getting used to it.

Peace,
Kaye

I am now on 10 mg daily and feel no sidd efects. The hardest part was the 5mg as i was tired and the bendfits did not work. I willl go to 15 mg next week. I have BP2 rapid cycling and have quit all ssris after 15 yeards with no probs...slowly titraring down. I atake 1.5 mg of Klon down from 2mg.
