Sister is responding very well to Seroquel - read

Posted by JerryPharmStudent on June 22, 2007, at 3:21:37

I meant "please read"

Anyway, some of yo may know that I posted about my sister having trouble with severe anxiety and depression and a very strong addiction to Ambien. She's had some tough things happen to her in the past 5 years and she's basically been self-medicating with up to 100mg of Ambien at night. Also - she severely brokeher ankle about 3 years ago and has been in chronic pain since and has a permanent limp. She sees a pain specialist at a pain clinic and they have her on Vidodin.

Anyway. She ran out of Ambien and asked me if I had anything to help her sleep because she was desperate. I gave her some old Seroquel I had - 100mg. I gave her enough for a week.

Well, she called me the other day and said it was like a miracle for her. She said she didn't feel as thought she needed to take the Ambien - nor did she "crave" it as much. She also said her motivation and depression and anxiety had greatly decreased. Next time she sees her doc she's going to ask tobe put on a small dose of Seroquel (she and I see the same doc).

I think this is wonderful. She's always had problems with medications as I have and she's been wasting away with this ambien addiction. So I can only hope this will continue to help her. I also got her to finally get an appointment with a therapist to finally talk about a lot of the issues that she's been dealing with.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

Jerry

Jerry,
the cool thing about your sister doing well on seroquel is that you and she may share a lot of genes which affect how you'll respond to meds.

I'm sure the stress of watching her health decline has been really hard on you. I wish you both the best-
