Does anyone have any thoughts on Geodon, vs Abilify or Trileptal for mood stabilization? I am looking for something weight neutral without bad side effects. Any comments or experiences would be appreciated.

No side effects or weight gain from low doses of trileptal the others I haven't taken. Love Phillipa

I have taken Geodon and Abilify in low doeses without weight gain, but they sent me into mania. I am now on a low dose of Trileptal, which my pdoc says will not cause weight gain.

What doses of Geodon and Abilify were you on. I am on 180 mg Geodon. How much Trileptal are you taking and are you having any vision side effects??

personally I'd go for trileptal: weight neutral with no potential to cause tardive dyskinesia. Geodon has caused tardive dyskinesia in some patients, as has Abilify; I haven't found any data that would indicate the annual risk for either drugs, but I did find an article online putting Seroquel's annual TD risk (another atypical) at around 2-3%/year. Patients with mood issues are considered to be more "at risk" for TD than patients with "pure" schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders.
Trileptal is pretty tolerable; personally, I like 600-900...1200mgs/day was a bit much, although apparently some people go up to the 2000+mgs/day range. You may want to have your blood sodium levels checked now and then, since trileptal can lower them.

I took 60 mg Geodon and 10 mg Abilify. I took 300 mg Trileptal @ bedtime until today. Today I started on 600 mg (300 2 X day).

Hi, med_empowered. Do you remember any of the cites for the information about TD and atypicals, particularly abilify?
I heard today from my pdoc that seroquel was the least likely to cause TD, and abilify, which had a greater likelihood, was around 2-3% per year, particularly for patients with mood disorders. I'd like to see any articles on the subject.
