Posted by JerryPharmStudent on May 23, 2007, at 20:32:26

Is there a specific time when everyone meets for Babblechat? I'd like to join.

thanks

Jerry

There are usually people there from maybe 8pm est until midnight est.

but I've been surprised. sometimes I'm so bored/lonely/hurting that I just log on and start talking to myself. then someone might join me. you never know

Babblechat :1 is something that's hard to resist.

by the way, I'm sorry that things feel so hard. I got that reaction from nearly all of my friends who I've told about mental illness. The real friends freaked out but then came back when they felt strong enough to deal with it. The other friends are those that I keep around for socializing, but I wouldn't depend on them, really.

Having said that- I've also been amazed that when you say you're in trouble that people really reach out to you. I was hospitalized recently (psych) and let people think I had a stomach bug. I didn't tell any lies, really. I just said I couldn't eat or drink for a few days and that I had to go to the ER and then I had a bad reaction to some medication. That I felt nauseous (which I did-- wellbutrin is not my friend).

So, sometimes you can just say you're in trouble or you're hurting and just ask someone for distraction. Ask them out for dinner, or tell them to organize a bbq party and you'll bring dessert. They don't need to know your symptoms and medication history to be able to support you.

please take good care,
-Ll

Good advice LN,I especially like not saying you're depressed but stating you're not feeling well and would like to get together. People don't know how to handle deprssion or emotional pain, it's too personal, but physical symptoms are much easy for most people to relate to, that's what many of us have been brought up to deal with.

And you know with deprssion the physical symtoms are varied and overwheming too. You should not give out too much information either. Keep it short and sweet with those that are not able to handle much more....

I'll have to try that tactic myself the next time i dont know what to say when I'm really down.

YEP!! I was in a medical inpatient facility recently and told Docs of my pain, unfortunately i didn't have bone showing through my skin. I was placated and told to smile and act happier, and told to have lunch before i could have my scheduled 10mg Valium.

Enought to drive me to drink, or aquire pain meds from 'other' sources.
