im 20 now.
I dont want to expose myself to alcohol, go getting it like ciggarettes.
I dont want to have it in my life exept at social's.
I fear just going to the store and being tempted, i dont want to open the door to the smell, the effect, the addiction, the horror it can cause, especially if im taking a antianxiety med.
I already have a craving and i have never, well feel like going and drinking, no!
I will go to a hypnotist and say "alcohol is your enemy" or "drinks (alcoholic beverages) you strongly dislike"
I already have had my share with Red Bull energy drinks.
Someone tell me how this mind up here, i cant stop myself from what my flesh wants.
I have to take charge, just stay with medications, not alcohol.
Some one give me some real advice.
That will stay with me!

I quit drinking yesterday. Starting day 2. Only problem is 4 hours sleep last night.
Alcohol is no where near as addictive as ciggarettes. Caffine yes.

Being a recovering alcoholic I know just how you feel. I've been sober for 6.5 years with the help of a 12-step program. And congratulations to Sebastian on two days. One day at a time.
I never thought I'd get over the craving and obsession for alcohol. I went to counselors, therapists and even a couple of hypnotists. My disease of alcoholism was more powerful than any of the help I was seeking. After staying away from alcohol a day at a time the craving went away. I have no desire at all for alchol. There is a way out.

I too have quit drinking. I find I have no 'off' button and just can't have a couple of beers and stop there. I drink to excess then I act foolish and at the worst last time I drank I fell and cut myself along my eyebrow line and needed stitches. Alcoholism runs in my family so I needed to wake up and get sober. I once did it for 2 years and felt great. I'm on meds that should not be mixed with booze anyways so that is one good reason to quit in itself. I do okay until Sunday when I go to play in my band and everyone else is drinking. The temptation is high. Wish me luck! The same for you too!

> RjWait... do you mean that you don't drink right now, but think that turning 21 will cause you to be driven toward alcohol?
If so, that's really not the case. If you don't drink right now, you don't need to start because of that magic number. If you do drink some times right now, but aren't dependent or abusing it, I don't see a problem.

i wuit drinking 2 years ago. i sat back and thought about the stuff i did when i was drinking... it was either really stupid stuff that got me into a ton of trouble or danger... or i couldnt remember cuz i was blacked out half the time... once i saw the whole picture of what was going on when i drank i decided that wasnt something i wanted to do anymore... i didnt wanna be "the drunk idiot" or dead or something... and after that i havent wanted to drink since =]
im kinda the opposite of addictive.... if i feel myself starting to crave or think i need a substance it irritates me and i want to be in control so i stop taking it for a while at least so that i KNOW that im "fine" without it... i think im too much of a control freak about myself to become an addict...
idk im babbling....
advice is just information... nobody can know whats best for you except you... use all the information you can and try to make the best decision for you....

Crenshaw I don't consider that being a control freak at all you are merely setting boundaries for yourself and seeing if it is a real problem for you whatever the substance may be. Love Phillipa
