reboxetine (edronax)

Posted by Ines on March 1, 2007, at 16:30:19

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this- hope I am posting in the right place! I've recently started taking Reboxetine 8mg for atypical depression. For the first two weeks it activated me and made me feel marginally better; I was unable to sleep for more than a couple of hours uninterrupted, but didn't feel particularly tired when I woke up. I got constant brain shivers and my head felt really strange. However after a couple of weeks my mood took a turn for the worse, I started feeling very anxious and went back to sleeping normally (which for me is a lot). It's been like that for a week now- it feels like I'm not taking the meds at all, except for nausea and increased anxiety. The strange thing is that this happened overnight- definitely not gradual. Has anyone had similar experiences with Reboxetine?

Welcome!

I've tried reboxetine - hey I'm guessing you don't live in the states! (Reboxetine isn't available there).

Well. I stuck it out longer than you on the rebox, but it sure made me feel weird. I lost my periods, got acne, lost weight and became very grumpy and it made my heart race like anything.

Atypical depression you say? Well. I think Rhodiola rosea might be good for you. Look into it anyway. I recommend the "rhodiola revolution" for reading (although that links to the US version of amazon)

Kind regards

Meri

Yes, I had the same experience with reboxetine at 8mg. It made me very anxious and depressed - suicidal at times. Also had lots of side effects.

Hi Meri,

Thanks a lot for replying!

I am indeed in the UK- so being treated on the NHS. Sounds quite scary how you reacted to reboxetine! I'm sticking it out for a few more weeks, in case things settle down. The scary bit is I feel really aggressive and irritable, and no happier than I was before- but it's early days... I have to give it a proper trial in order for the GP to agree to try anything else anyway.

Rhodiola- had never heard of it. I was put off trying herbal remedies over having no reaction whatsoever to St John's Wort, but I've just looked Rhodiola up on the web and certainly sounds like it's worth a try. I'm ordering the book on uk amazon. Always keen to try anything that might work! Have you tried it yourself by any chance?

I'm using Rhodiola Rosea myself at the moment with good results (well I stopped taking it last week and have fallen into a small depression in fact - maybe time to start taking it again?). I'm also taking with Agnus Castus, which is a dopamine agonist and acts on opioid receptors apparently. I'd say they're as effective for me as conventional antidepressants and have fewer side effects. I didn't respond to St. john's Wort either.

Hi Quintal,

Thanks a mil- I'll check out those links. I would like to find something herbal that works, as antidepressants always seem to be heavy on side effects for me, so your experience is encouraging. Thanks for sharing experience of reboxetine as well, glad to know it's not just me. I've been having suicidal thoughts- not normal for me-; it's manageable for now, but if it gets worse I'll just have to discontinue.

Yep Rhodiola rosea is good, although I have to say it made me quite anxious (particulary in the evenings) which meant that I had to stop it. The anxiety has sort of carried on through.

I was on reboxetine for several months a few years ago. I recall:
- suicidal ideation all day for 2 weeks
- incredible light sensitivity. I had to watch TV wearing sunglasses it looked so bright
- no improvement on other symptoms.

Not a great response on the whole...
