cymbalta

I am interested in knowing the side effects, other than the usual listed, that some people have experienced. Also, I have been on Cymbalta several months and would appreciate advice on stopping. Thanks.

Is the Cymbalta not working for what ails you? I can't really give you a good answer without knowing but I'll assume MDD or dysthymia. Cymbalta takes several months or more to get its full effect, its a very subtle agent -- though its never been proven that 120 is better than 60, I indeed do take 120.

Are you experiencing jitters or any hyped up symptoms? This sometimes could be mitigated by a low dose of say, Valium or something.

For myself, any medication that hits serotonin in any way gives me electric shocks when I do strenuous exercise, tilt my head fast, etc, and the same has been with Luvox, Remeron, and now Cymbalta. Its not pleasant but it only lasts an instant. I don't know if I experience jitters because I take a fair amount of Valium as part of a greater polypharmacy for my disorder.

I do know that with a pretty good guess that Cymbalta is probably less energizing than Effexor was when I tried it some years ago -- oh my god, that's how I started on Ambien. No sleep.

Now advice on stopping I cant say. Some people say its hard to stop Cymbalta. I would be prudent about it and do it slowly with your doctor obviously. It may require going down slowly week by week with 20s -- I dont know how much you take. You may have to take a benzodiazepine for withdrawal symptoms. If you want to go that path, I would suggest posting on the withdrawal board, or look up in the archives, there have been postings similar.
