Lamictal Panic Attacks

Posted by TheMeanReds on February 16, 2007, at 11:30:40

I've been steady on lamictal, 200 mg/day for Bipolar. But have noticed that severe anxiety is a side effect. It also definately causes me to have insomnia, so I take the lamictal when I wake up, and 100mg seroquel at bedtime. When I become anxious during the day I take 2mg klonopin.

But, severe anxiety still occurs. My doc said up the dose when I was on 100mg to subside depression and axiety. That didnt work. This is mainly a problem when I go to job interviews, or I go out to a concert. I do not take the ssri's because it makes the bipolar worse.

Has anyone augmented a med with lamictal because of anxiety? Not a benzo or an ssri though? And alcohol is out of the question.

Well they tried to augment my anxiety/depression but at 50mg had to stop excess salivation uncommon side effect. Don't think it make me anxious though. Love Phillipa

Lamictal and Lithium

Sorry to change the subject,
I have had a hard time finding my own answer to this question, but I was wondering whether or not Lamictal and Lithium are in the same family of drugs.
Are the two even similar at all?

I too am on 200 mgs of Lamictal and do have the insomnia. I will maybe take it when I wake up and see how it works.

I know lamictal and Lithium are used to treat Bipolar, but I dont know about the similarities. I've never tried lithium. When I take it when I wake up, I have less insomnia. I couldnt even shut my eyes at night if I took it at bedtime. Also, when I take it in the morning, I have alot of motivation to get things done.

I think it is better to start another thread so the current discussion can continue with the original question.

You wrote, "...And alcohol is out of the question."

Why? Does drinking it cause more anxiety? Or does it interact with your lamictal in some way? I had a couple drinks while on 100mg lamictal and it seemed to start a whole mixed state episode.

Thanks!

Please don't post anything that might lead others to feel accused or put down. Apparently this exchange was prompted by an earlier interaction you had with NotFred on another website, and does not relate to any interactions on this site. The rules here on PsychoBabble prohibit posting anything which could be taken as a personal attack on another poster. We would be pleased to welcome you as a new member of the PsychoBabble community, but only if you choose to abide by the rules of our community.

If you have any questions regarding the posting policies on this site, please read the FAQ, located at http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil Follow ups to this action should be directed to the Administration board and should themselves be civil.

ok

well im not disregarding you knowing him.

dymphna handles notfred and blue heron with kid gloves, since they both have an epilepsy diagnosis, much like her. so let's just say it sickens me to see her treat people like me with such bias and disrespect as to ban me for making mediocre comments at best about them. such as suggesting notfred to leave the argument since he wasn't in the argument to begin with, but he/she felt the need to insert himself and make some degrading, demeaning comment about me. so if you know notfred tell him you know about his bullsh*t and disrespecting people online and you dont appreciate it.

> his bullsh*t and disrespecting people online

Please don't post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down.

But please don't take this personally, either, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're a bad person, and I'm sorry if this hurts you.

I do hope that you choose to remain a member of this community and that members of this community help you, if needed, to avoid future blocks.

It's up to you to decide whom you interact with. Sometimes interacting with others may be frustrating, staying civil may be a challenge, and new skills may help. If you're open to developing new skills (which I realize may not be why you came in the first place), that's another way in which you may be supported by other posters.

More information about posting policies and tips on alternative ways to express yourself, including a link to a nice post by Dinah on I-statements, are in the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

notfred, I'm also sorry if you felt hurt.

Follow-ups regarding these issues, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob
