Common for MAOI not to work second time around????

Posted by UGottaHaveHope on February 20, 2007, at 10:55:28

I've heard several people say in here that they had some success with a MAOI. Then they switched to another drug in hopes of better success, but it didn't work out. So then they went back to the original MAOI and they didn't have the same initial response or any response.

Do you think that is more common or uncommon to happen? You know, for the med to not work the second time around?

Why wouldn't a drug work the same the second time around, if that is true?

Michael I don't think anyone knows about them not working a second time. But it seems to be a pattern here. I do know it happened to me with paxil and the luvox I hold tightly. Maybe our brains get used to them. Then what? Love Phillipa

Parnate worked the 2nd time around for me, and Feb. 22nd will be starting it for the 3rd time..i am confident it will work again.

I went from tranylcypromine to phenelzine and then tried tranylcypromine again. It did not seem to work at all like it did the first time.

At any rate, I'm doing better on d-amphetamine + phenelzine than I did on Parnate.

I read in some study that I read a long time ago (don't ask me where, I forget) that about 10% of people do not respond to Parnate the second time around(including me!). I don't think that this applies for all MAOI's.

For what it's worth, I've had very same AD work 'VERY DIFFERENTLY' at different times in life.

It's happened with SSRI and SNRI!

I've not tried a second time MAOI, but it wouldn't surprise me me a bit!

Many factors could be different.
