I know by noon wheather or not I am going to sleep

Posted by linkadge on January 30, 2007, at 16:35:21

It is like a signal that goes off. Like a little switch. When that switch is on I know I will get no sleep whatsoever.

Hey Link,

I pretty much know upon waking whether I'll be anxious or not all day.

So you base your ability to sleep on how you feel at noon? I just wait till I'm tired and that's it with my meds for 4-5hours repeat dose and hopefully get a few more hours in. Love Phillipa

My sleep is directly related to how much noise my inconsiderate roommate makes whilst I am a) trying to fall asleep and b) whilst I'm actually asleep.

Right now, I'm battling sleepiness despite getting a solid 8 hours last night. I'm usually pretty sleepy most of the day, but particulary mid-afternoon/early evening. I don't know why. I could sleep right now which isn't very helpful as I have an exam to study for!

Link - so how does it feel? How can you tell?

Don't know, just like a little swich goes off.

I had problems with sound, I still do have some small problems, but I have found a combination of ear plugs which really cuts down noise.

1) soft foam earplugs in the ear cannal,
2) mouldable putty plugs (outer ear)
3) one half of construction earmuffs
(I bought earmuffs the construction workers
use, I detached one muff, and I hold in in
place over my non-pillowside ear with a
neckwarmer around my head.

I hear very very little.

Link how do you account for waking up at like 6am after going to sleep at 2 cause the neighbor is up nextdoor and you just sense it. She doesn't make noise. And I wear earplugs too the foam ones. Love Phillipa

Maybe you've trained your body clock to wake up at that time - how do you know for certain she's up if she makes no noise? Has she told you she gets up at this time of the morning? Does this have something to do with guilt about lying in bed while other people are getting up (and maybe going to work)? I'm only asking because I know that's a sensitive area for you and possibly that's what's bugging you subconsciously rather than you actually physically sensing that your neighbour is awake next door?

My neighbours rake their coal fire out every morning at 5:40AM on the dot all year round. It sounds as if they're braying a hole through the party wall and my bed is right above it. I wear foam ear plugs too but they're useless against that - I can still feel the vibrations shaking the bed. It lasts for about half an hour too. Ridiculous, but whenever I complain they say they're doing it as gently as they can and it's not their fault the walls are thin. I just get too disheartened to keep on asking them.

Q what you say is very possibly true. Funny I will look out the bathroom blind and see her lights on and the back door open which means she's letting the dog out and getting ready for work. So you may be right. Love Phillipa
