Ambien + depression

Posted by AMD on January 30, 2007, at 11:41:24

Folks,

Does Ambien cause or exasperate depression? I took 20 m.g. Friday after a night out and have been sleepy and blue since. I'm worried I triggered something in my brain that lessened my energy and strength. (Indeed, I've been not only tired, but rather exhausted and weak as well.)

I'm worried and want to know - should Ambien clear out soon, and will I stop being so tired?

Otherwise why would I feel soooo fatigued? I took 400 m.g. of Provigil yesterday (and 200 m.g. today) but it's not helping.

Well if it's like lunesta since I started taking it a month ago I kindda feel the same with the benzos and I thought it was my thyroid. You mean this class of meds can exacerbate depression? Love Phillipa ps I've heard of the amnesia but not this

Hmm..How can I put this into words. I've taken Ambien and never thought this would happen to me. I began to sleep walk, wake up in the middle of the night, calling friends and cursing them out as my husband said but the worse of them all is, falling asleep on the couch and my husband found me naked in my car the next morning sound asleep.
Awful and embarassing feeling.

Yep, that has been reported in almost all hypnotics. OTOH, if I do not take sleep meds
I will sleep eat; at the least I trash the kitchen and at the worst I try to cook things on the stove. Funny, in real life the stove and I are strangers.

You might think I'm a little off my rocker tonight but thank you for the response. It's the best laugh I've had in weeks...lol

Not at all, I think it is funny too. Thats the common thing with sleep disorders, behavior is often very odd. Med induced sleep disorders often report much the same.

I just worry these effects will last - it's Wednesday, and I'm still feeling quite slowed down. To the point where even the movement of my hands seems impeded.

Is it possible I had a stroke? I'd also been drinking that night, and mixing the two things was likely not a good idea. But assuming I'm alive now (last time I checked), am I mostly out of the woods on this one?

I've heard things here and there about ambien precipitating depression, but I've been taking ambien on fairly regular basis for over a month now and I can honestly say I've not relapsed into a depressive state. I am on an antidepressant, though..Paxil CR.

10 mg of Ambien doesn't affect my depression, but when I took Ambien CR I always felt much more lethargic and depressed the next day.

ambien is out of your system
combined with painkillers (including those used for socializing)it can make for a bad day
but it's out of your system
why inconsistant doses of the provigal?
