Chantix anyone?

Posted by willyee on January 20, 2007, at 7:52:19

As most know i am a compulsive person,even working out,ill workout when im dead sick.So smoking in this same manner does quite combine well.

Im very interested in this new drug after visitng the site and reading on it.

Appearently it doesent seem to have any immediate dangerous interactions with most drugs,even MAOIS!

I know a LOT of people,myself included use cigarettes at times as a very short,and in my opinion counterproductive anti depressant,so...

PERHAPS this drug since it can be used appearently with current meds might be a new possable augmentation strategy.

I suppose my questions are.....

Has anyone tried it,if so what is your opinion?

Second is it even available yet,as i plan on asking my primary doc for it this month.

Well i guess we will see,i wanna thank the individual who posted this recently,and also mention or ask how many people actualy notice they smoke more on certain meds,are in times of worsened depression,well i guess if luck is on my side i will know soon,because even in my short remisive stages i smoke like a chimney.

I have a friend who is thinking of trying it so I would like to follow this and see if there is personal input.

My friend's problem is insurance coverage issues -- what's new?? I'm not sure how pricey it is but my bet is, it is costly and the treatment length goes on for a while.... I told her the keywords for her were: doc who is good at giving plenty of samples.

How are ya, willyee?

I'm fabulous... (Smile) and freezing - it's cold here.

I am still doing really well with my chemical enhancement and that makes for life going along well for me, thankfully.

Good thoughts to and for you.

My PCP says Chantix is about $90 a month.

That's about one half $ I spend a month 4smokes. Have to buy the most expensive cigs of course!

It would be fabulous to quit, but 'I gotta wanna' and 'I don't feel the gotta wanna'.

I pray I will soon.

Aside from that, Glydin ... Will you pls share your med regimen?

tks, cf

~~~ Me???
Hi corafree,
I take Lexapro 20 mgs. daily. I have used Klonopin prn (after using it as consistent monotherapy for three years prior to going on Lex) but have not dosed with K since, ah, I think last Oct/Nov. At one time, I experimented with supplements and such but they were a bust for me. So, the Lex is really all I take. It will be two years in March. Fingers, toes, eyes, etc. crossed for continued efficacy.
I saw your post on Social, I'm sorry to hear you're having a difficult time.
Tks G.
I'll have to google more about Lexapro.
My anxiety is such a problem that it is my first concern.
I have GAD ... bad GAD. Did you find it effective for anxiety or is that not what you were looking for???? Am I repeating myself?
Yeah ... physically sick, too long.
I'm prob' repeating myself. Seems if stay online too long become anxious.
Talk more when 'awake more' and not after having been on too long.
My P is deadset there is some AD that will help my anxiety and panic attacks. I may have to find another P. Too bad as he originally seemed very open to helping me.
I think he may have looked backwards in my chart to a time when I was on a high dosage of Xanax.
It was a bad time in my life ... I mean life events were terrible.
Think he would take that into consideration? He's pretty much just saying 'no' AND 'wants to whittle down my Valium which scares the holy crap out of me!
tks, cf
Back to CHANTIX, the subject of this thread. It has been out for over 4 months. I've been on it now for 3 months, and have been able to quit smoking. It markedly reduced craving, and especially stopped the chain smoking I was doing. Initially it was very activating to me, with definite antidepressant-like effects. As it indirectly stimulates dopamine receptors, it would make sense that it could augment other antidepressants and be useful for the subgroup of depressed patients responsive to dopaminergics.
Hey that sounds encouraging.
I've got bronchitis and am going broke buying expensive smokes.
I chain smoke since I lost a loved one.
I think u mention activation. What does that feel like? Anxiety?
Is it coded for use in the mental health field?
Lastly, is there any way to get insurance to cover it?
tks, cf
Don't know about ins. coverage or coding. The "activation" was a feeling of motivation to do things (anything) rather than mope around which is characteristic of my apathetic depressions. No anxiety at all.
Effexor XR also decreases the desire to smoke, that's why I hated it...lol It definitely works though.
