Remeron: Week 1 noticing it's very pro-sexual....

Posted by JayBTV on January 16, 2007, at 16:11:43

Has anyone here who's been on Remeron found it to be pro-sexual?

I've read a lot of stuff indicating it's sexually neutral (IE: No sexual side effects). I'm only in my first week of the trial (15mg + 900mg Lithium), but it's definitely 1)Increased my desire for sex and 2)The intensity of the feeling which has also led to faster orgasms (which in my case is good)

BTW I'm male/29yrs.

Hmm... interesting. I *won't* tell my husband, 'cause he'd put me on it right away.

It may be increasing your testosterone. If you find that this side-effect is bad for your quality of life, (weren't you taking it to get MORE sleep, not less?) you might want to lower dose or take another sleepy-med.

interesting...

sure beats the other side-effect I've heard of, which is lactation. yikes!

That's great! I would get on it in a heart beat, but I heard it is pro-chocolate too. I am gaining weight looking at water on Cymbalta. I would be a romantic chocolate factory on Remeron. ;<

I've seen other reports say that it increased people's libido, usually as in 'I got my libido back' after it was dampened by depression. It makes sense pharmacologically, but as most of us know the effects expected from pharmacology are hardly guaranteed. Good news in your case though!

How is it working otherwise? Sleep? Anxiety?

(Thanks for the replies, btw)

So far very well but it's only been about a week at the minimal 15mgs. Definitely noticed sedation during the day at first but that does seem to be waning. The nightly dose still knocks me out which is good.

My life is very limited at the moment due to some dumb behavior while manic. I'm currently staying w/ family members until I get back on my feet. However I have been very motivated to do just that (Re: Job, find social outlets) and haven't noticed much social anxiety. Seems to be working in that area as well as making me feel a bit more "on" or true to myself.

Definitely have noticed the super-appetite but if there is a good thing it's that food TASTES damn good. I'm usually a very picky eater so it's a fun change for me.....definitely like having good muchies after a joint. I'm not excited about potentially gaining weight, but I'm hopeful it's not like other meds I've taken (Zyprexa) that to me seem pack on the pounds regardless of how MUCH I eat. I'm hoping most people on Remeron just find foods that much more tasty and thus add some weight.

Other less commonly reported side-effects I've noticed: 1) When I get angry I tend to be get more angry than I used to. Someone on Askapatient.com reported this and for me it's true. I feel it's been more of an indication of belief in myself rather than a negative. 2) Achy muscles. I've had a bit of a stiff neck since starting the trial. Also have noticed morning where I feel like I just lifted a lot of weights (lactic acid feeling). This SE has been the most annoying but not too bad.

Thanks again for the discussion and I'll update if things change.

Cheers,

-Jay

It is very pro-sexual for me as well. Probably more so at 15mg, but still going strong at 45mg. I'm 58 and was on 80mg of Parnate for many years. Great orgasms, too. I had similar feelings at low doses of Cymbalta, but couldn't tolerate it.

What about appetite? Have you found yourself having to deal with food cravings?

Sorry for the delay in responding. I was out of town for a few days. The first time I was on Remeron, I had the munchies real bad, especially at 45mg. They weren't too bad at 15mg, but that wasn't enough for the depression.

So far at 45mg this time, appetite is controllable. Of course, I'm taking Adderall and that makes a difference, especially during the day.

No, I don't have ADD. I have taken Adderall for about the past 3 years or so to augment antidepressant. First, to boost Parnate, then other antidepressants, and now Remeron. I am taking regular Adderall (generic) now, but did better on the Adderall XR, although the regular seems to curb my appetite more. The XR makes me feel more normal, however, so I think I'll go back on that, instead.
