Chantix RES

Posted by willyee on January 28, 2007, at 8:56:26

Just wanna thank everyone who responded to my chantix post.

I have it,and first let me say its not ur usual bottled med.Its a giant box, with tons of information, looks like sample cards laying out the weeks of use.Looks very expensive.

From reading all the info, seems thus far aside from some caution, there arent any ACTUAL med interactions to worry about, and its stated to be a far cry from wellbutrin.

With the misunderstanding, one which still exists,i wasnt sure if its saying it is going to prohibit dopamine release period, etc.

Being on parnate,a highly dopamine drug,i was scared this might in a way alter the benifits of my med,so i just tucked the box aside for a little while.

However, being very uneducated in actual pharmocolofy,i want to thank this one poster who explained how they found it to actualy seem to be activating, and suggests it might ENHANCE a highly dopermigeric drug like parnate,so,im gonna just start it.If anyone can re-assure me im not taking a risk of loosing any benifit from my parnate in terms of increasing dopamine, please feel free to jump in at anytime.

P.S I also specifcaly remember it saying it SLIGTLY works at one of the 5hta sub types, for anyone who knows what that means, other than a serotion site,im not sure.

Last i will say its quite expensive, two thins about it are,

A Dont assume its like other anti smoking means and autamticaly assume ur NOT COVERED,its a pharmcutical, double check with your insurance.

B Medicare part d should cover most of it.

C Approach your primary care doc about it,in complaints of smoking, not your p-doc,i feel you have a better chance here,i know my p doc would have given me all types of grief if i had asked saying she dident know it.

My brand new primary care doc did say he dident know it,BUT know what he did,he got up,went looked it up,and sais sure.

Im really really getting fed up with p docs, therapists and the whole shalack.

My whole family sees this primary care doc,on my first visit he knocked out 4 of my major complaints, also it was nice to see a white cold room, rubber gloves, doc equipment, that white coat and all working with me,OVER a FACY EXTRVAGANT office with leather furnture, and a well dressed "doc" who barly knows me and is timing me.

Sorry for the excitiment, just havent had a primary doc since i moved to this new city in 8 years,i missed the white coldness of the old skool doc.

As a partial agonist and competitive inhibitor at specific nicotinic receptors, it basically locks the receptor in a "partially on" state. It blocks nicotine's ability to fully agonize the same receptors, so smokers don't get the nicotine boost. I don't know that anyone can predict how it will interact with the subjective experience of Parnate. Just my opinion.

Yes, the 5-HT3 subtype. It's responsible for digestive motility, and thus mediates the most common side effect, nausea.
