Is Tianeptine worth trying?

Posted by Jimmyboy on January 26, 2007, at 16:42:42

My depression has gotten much better thanks to Lithium, but I am still not anywhere near where I would like to be. I have about 3 months worth of Tianeptine I ordered awhile back and never used, its still within the expiration period.

My question is whether of not this is worth trying , I have not seen many people that have had success with it. If you have had success with it, please let me know.

Also , has anyone taken this combined with Lith?

Thanks

JB

hi, lithium is for bipolar and schizo

i recommend Seroquel for treatment resistant depression, even if you are not suffering from psychotic disorders... give 400 mg at his dose a try for a month and then talk to me again

It sounds to me like you may be someone who'd benefit, because your depression is partly controlled. Tianeptine does not seem to be a tremendously powerful antidepressant, but it can be very helpful to some people, at reducing pain, elevating mood, relieving anxiety, etc.

I take it three times a day, and find it to be very low in side-effects. I have taken it with Lithium, (stopped because the Lithium was not useful to me) without any negative issues.

It's not for everyone, of course, but if you have it, it seems to me you may as well try it out. Some don't like it, some do.

There are a lot of posts about it in the archives here, I think.

There aren't too many meds I would recommend, but tianeptine is one I would.

It might not suit you, but you will know quickly.

Yeah, I have bipolar II and have tried just about everything, including Seroquel. Although some people seem to like it, I have to rak that up there with the worst , at least for me.. I felt so drugged I couldn;t function at all. Hopefuly this new combo will be helpful.. thanks for the input

Thanks, since I already have it and it seems the side effects are harmless enough, I started it last night. Hopefully it will be the extra kick I need to get back to feeling normal. I will keep posting on it..

Tianeptine - 4 days

Well, been on Tianeptine 4 days now, no side effects at all.. thats a welcome relief from all the other crap I have taken in the past. Hopefully the AD effect will kick in within the next few weeks.. if nothing else, it should be easy to take it long enough to see if it actually could work. ( Lasted 1 day on Seroquel : )

I definitely second that emotion regarding seroquel. I feel like I'm a junkie with a wild appetite for every sweet food there is..
