does hypomania stop ocd?

Posted by medievil on January 24, 2007, at 11:53:04

allright, i think i've got bipolar
right now i'm back euphoric and feel on top of the world, these days my ocd seems to greatly reduced or even gone

do other ppl experience this? does this mean a mood stabilizer would work for ocd?

Its possable. Euphoric mania may reduce OCD, but mixed states may not.

If a mood stabiizer reduces mania, it might bring back OCD.

i dont really get the point of medication for bipolar actually
i love mania!!!
parnate seemed to have stabilized bipolar (took it for ocd) but i was missing my hypomanic days and i was obsessing it made my serotonin receptors less sensitive
(i saw an improvement in ocd tough, just stopped the parnate too early)

If it was making you euphoric, how could you hate it?

Anyhow, so long as you only experience pleasurable mania, I wouldn't care. If you expereince lows then it might be good to stabilize moods as higher highs can contribute to lower lows.

Its not a scientific fact or anything, I would just assume that OCD could be mood congruent seeing as depression and OCD are often comorbid.

So let me get this straight,

You did not want to take Parnate for fear that it would desensitize your serotonin receptors, yet you take Ecstacy without fear of dammge to serotonin receptors?

I recall reading in the "letters" section of one of the major psychiatric magazines a report by a psychiatrist who noticed that his OCD patients who developed hypomania were free of their OCD during their hypomanic episodes. Unfortunately, their OCD returned when their hypomania remitted.
