dopaminergics with antipsychotics

Can you add an antipsychotic to a dopaminergic med without blocking the effects of the dopaminergic?

I am on Parnate and still feel a VERY dopaminergic effect despite taking Seroquel at night.

Same goes for when I was taking Adderall with Seroquel at night.

it can work..back in the day, these combos were common in one pill. There was Thora-Dex (dexedrine and Thorazine), Eskatrol (compazine/dex), Stelladex (stelazine/dex), so on and so forth. Apparently, these drugs were good for both weight loss AND mood--I guess with careful dosage adjustments, you can get maximum benefits from both meds.

Wow, surprised they don't still do this! Ie, "zyprexadex". That would seem too be an improvement. Weight-neutral anytipsychotics. I guess they'd no longer be taken at night though.

after the whole "speed kills" thing in the 60s, the upper/downer combo pills became less popular; most were withdrawn in the 70s (eskatrol stuck around into the 80s). Docs do still do the upper/downer thing; lots of people are on either ritalin/amphetamines plus an antipsychotic, or Provigil plus an antipsychotic (milder stimulant, same concept). Provigil is expen$ive, but it can cause weight loss in some patients, like those on clozapine, so its useful. What I'd be interested in would be phentermine+atypicals, meridia+atypicals, that sort of thing--modified anorectic drugs plus varying doses of atypicals. Seems like it could help a lot of problems.
