P wants I choose AD asap - Assistance pls + TY

Posted by corafree on January 24, 2007, at 16:29:34

Saw P and made a plan. Discontinue Eff-XR and two weeks later begin another AD.

I should add that my PCP keeps suggesting Cymbalta.

Well it's been almost 2wks now. It was really hard discontinuing E-XR this time. Never hard for me b4. Strange.

I'm on Valium which is my ultimate lifesaver and I am often in need of something for panic attacks but P will not allow.

I began Provigil a couple months back for lability and inattention. Havin' a little troub' w/ nervousness and BP. But, it gets me off my butt! Anyone w/ suggestion?

Re: an AD ...

I just threw three out there.

I'm pretty close to having TRD, or maybe I already do. Or maybe I'm better w/o an AD. I wish I could just go w/o one a while. But, P wants me on an AD to help anxiety and enable him to whittle down Valium. This scares the unholy h*ll out of me.

Nardil

I thought I'd spoken to someone here about Nardil. I mentioned it to P and response was, 'it is now available in patch form called ENSAM' 'I've never prescribed it b4' Well ... isn't this all messed up?

Paxil

(on for a short period in past I believe and cannot recall it being awful or anything, but did d.c. for some reason)

Lexapro

(never on)

Hi corafree probably suggested the cymbalta as it's related the effexor in that it's also an SSNRI. So similar in function. Did effexor work for you? If so the cymbalta may too. The others are SSRI's and EMSAM is strong and if your doc has no experience I don't think I'd want him trying this one first. I'll let the others chime in. Love Phillipa

hey cora. Can you maybe find a shrink who could rx some as-needed benzos, the provigil, and leave you alone? ADs can make things worse for some people, and a lot of times you might be better off on an as-needed benzo than on an all-the-time AD.

Good luck!

Choosing an AD. I think that's hard. It's like throwing darts blindfolded. There is just no way to predict what will happen on any of them.

P says nardil is now available as a patch called ensam? Yikes. Very frightening to hear a specialist so out of touch with reality.

Allowing the brain to readjust after time on effexor will take time. Much longer than 2 weeks. I wonder how just provigil and valium would do if given a month without effexor?

When you see this doctor again, please don't forget, YOU are the paying customer. You should get the service and cooperation you want.

Okay ya' expelled a few endorphins w/ that one Crazy Horse! tks!

It is wonderful we can laugh in the midst of this. Don't know what I'd do w/o the humor.

What is it about online support; thought 'bout last eve. I've met a few peeps in mental health settings that really screwed me over in the real world. We communicate socially and kindly at an arm's length. Is there safety in that? Think maybe.

U really read my mind!

It would be a waiting game, but I do have a medicare savings plan that provides low cost mental health coverage.

I tried going that route one time, and at the initial intake, I was asked if I'd ever abused alcohol. After I said ... well when my children were young I did check myself into a treatment center, ... this P just would not even consider one benzo. I wonder if my name (and this info) is on a file there still. They've changed to a diff' corporation.

I could use my maiden name dash my last name, tho' SS would pull up last name.

It's probably what I should do. I wish I had the energy I had then. It was b4 my NB and b4 my father passed away and b4 I felt so deserted out here in dysfunctio* j*unction.

Let me think and 'pray' about it!?

Oh, and those things that I did 20yrs ago, things I haven't done in 10yrs, well I'm learning they are best left unsaid.

tksmep, cf

Right BB. Was thinkin' I need more than 2wks off Eff-XR to begin feeling well again. And, did he not realize my being off 'the anti-anxiety wonder'(sarcasm) would necessitate some assistance. Also, feeling physically unwell?

He wasn't going to prescribed anything. Just cold turkeyed because was 75mg. I had to bring up the need for at least 1/2 or .5 more Valium to get through this and promise to d.c. in 2wks. (Oh yikes, he's going to be thinking about that today!) After being on 10mg t.i.d. since 3/05, he'd had me down to 2-1/2 10mg for the past couple months before this. Don't think he realizes the depth of my anxiety or the NB.

Did I say he is the 'Dire*tor' for the cou*ty system.

And, I thought it was Nardil that was the MAOI .. turned patch .. so as to avoid all the dietary restrictions, I believe. But, w/ some others here 'whom sound stronger than I' havin' difficulty, and he never having prescribed it, think that's a no go.

I'm so tired. I can barely respond to threads.

Would it be ok if I just followup w/ "X" from now on? Like, ... "Yeah, I got ya! Tks!"

ps: Sorry can offer no help to others right now.
