2 Things i never see addresed for me

Posted by willyee on January 14, 2007, at 17:08:27

Well its been a few days now and i have the same results, which is good, they are not the best ones but seem to be consistent, and i need that so desperatly.

With that,i can slowly address areas in more detail.

Two things however nothing seems to help ENOUGH are ......

Smoking, the urge to smoke,i hate wellbutrin, and well cant and wouldent use it now anyway.

Stimulants worsen the craving, sedatives the same.

What can end this constant feelig of withdrawal of cigarettes?

Also OCD,kava and taurine were the only things that ever hit ocd dead on for me.

Kava is gone,so i guess i will try taurine however i just dont wanna trhow anything new in.

I wanna make sure the ocd is not simply a branch from the illness itself, and as i get even a little better i see my ocd dwindle,i do feel they all feed in a big ole ugly circle anyway.

So taurine for the ocd in a week, but no clue on the cigarettes, also i find now i am HATING bedtime,i simply dont want to go to bed.

I dont expect answers, feel free to comment though.

As for the smoking cessation there is a new drug out by Pfizer called Chantix which _may_ help. Apparently it was developed to actually block the same receptors Nicotine uses in the brain as opposed to Wellbutrin which has a more general impact on Dopamine.

I posted a thread about it a couple weeks ago looking for experiences but still no followups. It's really new (Aug '06 in Pharmacies I think) so I guess the verdict is still out and I'm sure it's pricey. Notwithstanding it is a new option:

Chantix:

Oh and I thought Kava Kava was still available just not in grocery stores - but I may be behind the times w/ that one.

Cheers,

-Jay

Kava's still around. The pills are harder to find, but they're out there, and you can buy straight up raw kava and make your own beverage.

www.konakavafarm.com is one site I found that I might be ordering from. I imagine there are others out there...I got this one off remedyfind.com

Outstanding answers !!

About the kava, when the U.S had the liver scare ON WENT THE BRIGHT READ LABEL WARNINGS AND RUMOURS.

At this pouint there was an abundant choice, almost every brand carred a kava product, like having a b-6 product.

Slowy with bright red labeling and stories of media hype, sales plumted,as customers dident touch it.

Eventualy it ended up to where we are today,i might be off a TAD,but as far as capsules brand kava, there is,

Natrol
Vitamin Shoppe brand
Elecntric institute
Now foods

Prior to tons upon tons, gnc once carried THE BEST AND EFFECTIVE GEL CAPPED kava ever!!

People will still shout the liver problem at you, however next time u can, look at a bottle, youll notice no longer red tags, just small POSSABLE WARNINGS.

Why?Because the findings actualy CAME BACK,numerous FDA CONTROLLED studies were steup,results.......KAVA CAN IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM ALONE,BE FOUND TO BE THE CULPRIT IN ANY LIVER TOXCITY.

You have to dig for that one,but its out there.

So

Solgar
GNC
SOLARAY
COUNTRY LIFE
ETC ETC all ceased already and i doubt will bring it back, the ramining kava left to me is just simply not what i knew.

One of the most recomended things, because of the various growing sites, and prepartions was to not exceed the dose,BUT TO MIX various brands to get a ultimate effect, this was praised on vault of erowid.

To the second poster,im googling that mentioned drug as we speak, thanks a bunch !

There's a new medication out (Varenicline) to assist with quitting smoking; however, I don't know if it has any interaction w/ MAOIs.

Oddly enough, I QUIT smoking when I was taking/abusing Adderall.

Wellbutrin made me want to smoke more because I wasn't feeling the positive effects of smoking and kept chasing the dragon.

I've heard Nortriptyline is effective for quitting smoking, though I did not have this experience myself.

I find it hilarious that for substance abuse, it is considered common for people to go away to rehab for 30 days but the idea of being locked away without cigarettes for a month in a quit smoking program is unheard of.

Halcyondaze

I just wanted you to know that I appreciate your comments on the other thread re ECT. I don't want to post on that thread anymore--too many hurtful comments. I agree with you as one of those mh professionals who also has her own problems. Thanks.

Karen

<< I agree with you as one of those mh professionals who also has her own problems. >>

... so that's a dirty little secret that we both share, then. ;)

I often get paranoid about colleagues finding this board and realizing that they have someone equally as crazy as the pts working in their midst!
