Lithium help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by becksA on January 9, 2007, at 9:36:39

Could somebody please tell me all the negative side effects apart from weight gain that is possible with Lithium? I've been feeling some stuff, and am not sure if it's coming from the Lith, or something else.

Thanks.

I took it for about 2 years and although many people report bad side effects, I personally did not have any side effects.

Are you taking the timed release version? How much are you taking? Are you taking it all in one dose or split throughout the day?

I took 900 mg , slow release (lithobid) all in one dose at night. . I have been told its actually better to take it all in one dose b/c the time between doses gives your body time to recover from ingesting it.. I read a study about it, if I can find it I will post it .

Good luck

JB

Lithium was an excellent mood stabilizerfor my Mixed Episodes. But after a couple of years I started to suffer extremely painful musculo-skeletal aches, called myalgias. I did a search and discovered lithium was a prime substance for causing this condition. Not that everyone gets it, but that it happens in association with lithium enough to know it is not that uncommon.
I also had tremor, burning mouth syndrome, weight gain, and more migraines.
But I react very sensitively to medications.
What are you experiencing?
best, ramsea

I take it all in one dose at night, and maybe it's just getting used to it, but I feel very groggy in the mornings....takes me a while to get going. Just wondering if it was the lithium

thanks

Lithium can be pretty rough. Lots of people seem to hate it--they complain about how it sucks the joy out of their lives, so on and so forth. Grogginess seems common, also tremors, thirst, weight gain, acne, hair loss, renal failure (long term use), cognitive impairment/dulling...still, other people love it. Like Patty Duke. She loves her Lithium.
