pseudoname (trigger)

Posted by Dr. Bob on December 4, 2006, at 4:50:30

Hi, everyone,

I'm very sorry, but I need to pass on the below.

Bob

--

Dr. Bob,

I am writing to you about my dear friend [xxx], who was a frequent participant on psychobabble as "psuedoname" and who you met in Toronto several months ago.

As you may know, [he] struggled for many years with severe chronic depression and had tried many many alternatives to treat it.

Having had little if any success, [he] finally decided [last Tuesday] morning to end the battle and took his own life. We who loved him are devastated, of course, but know he fought a brave battle for a long time.

I just thought that you and others involved with psychobabble might appreciate knowing about this.

Sincerely,

[xxx]
(the one that "lived two hours away" :)

It's so sad. I'll remember pseudonames gentleness and courtesy and insight when he was criticizing analysis on the Psychology board, and the NPR reviews he used to post, and the courage he showed venturing out to the Babble party, and that he kept on fighting for so long. I am so sorry it ended this way for him. He will be missed.

Devastating news. Just yesterday I thought of him, missed his presence here, and wondered how he was doing.

I too remember his contributions about psychology, NPR programs, and articles of interest. And I remember fondly the occasional personal dialogs we had via babblemail.

To those who knew him and loved him, I want to tell you that he touched my life. I'm sure he touched many lives during his journey here on earth.

My deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.

pseudoname, you're already missed.

I've just been through a friend's
attempted suicide episode, and i
did not post it because nobody knowing
the person, it would just be
a trigger for those already on the edge.
I thought it would be very unthoughtful
and even harmful and would not do any good.

I don't think that something this personal
should be posted, unless the person is known;
if it's somebody's friend, then perhaps the
e-mail can be sent confidentially. Or if
you wish to post the obituary from a newspaper
perhaps that would add a more personal touch
and reality. Start a file - OBITUARIES (maybe
with something about the person's life if the family agrees).

Dear pseudoname, dear family, friends,

It is sad to hear from your decision to end your life. Even if it is natural to pass away it can be hard to bear for your family, friends. Where ever you are I am sure that you are at the best place possible. I seldom read your posts but I will read what you contributed to this community.

My best wishes to you, family, friends please be strong.

I knew things were bad for him, but not this bad.
He was one of my best friends here.
From his playful, intelligent and *kind* posts you might not have realised how terrible he felt.
I had hoped to meet him one day.
This is really awful.

you will be missed pseudoname (nm)

I can't believe it.

I met him in Toronto. Now he's gone? I had dinner and breakfast with him and others. It was fun. Now he's dead? I just can't believe this.

I never knew anyone who took their own life.

This makes me think of my own mortality. What if I kill myself too? It's possible, isn't it? I think I'll get my pdoc to tell Babble if that happens. My parents don't know how to use a computer.

I remember what he looked like. I asked him if I could take his picture and he said he would rather I not. I remember him telling his border crossing story, of how he told the customs officer(s) that he was meeting internet friends and of how they got suspicious of him when he told them that.

Pseudoname looked forward to the APA presentation. He even got registered before any of us others had. I think he also had a lot of fun with the drug exhibits. I remember he said people there thought he was a pdoc and so he went along with it.

((((((((((((((((((pseudoname)))))))))))))))))))) You were a kind gentle person.

I wish you weren't dead. :-( Now I'll never see you again.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. I had always enjoyed our discussions on Psychology and wished he would post more often about ACT.

And I remember how excited he was about Toronto, and how he seemed to enjoy it so.

It's such a very sad loss.

It makes me so sad to think how the best of medicine, therapy failed him so completely.

He wasn't the first and he won't be the last.

But for right now, he is the most important.

Rest well pseudoname, your work here is done.

Ours is just beginning.
