Naltrexone, etc?

Posted by Reggie BoStar on November 22, 2006, at 0:32:07

Hi Everyone,
I take Naltrexone, 100mg/day, to control alcohol cravings. Like a lot of people I noticed that it seems to augment my AD too (Cymbalta 90 mg/day). IT works GREAT for the alcohol cravings and I like the AD augmentation , but...

I'm having problems with rapid heartbeat, light-headedness (almost fainting sometimes when I stand up) and I'm always sleeping and tired. Anyone else on Naltrexone experiencing this? I know my dose is a little high, most folks start at 50mg/day. But when I complained about still getting bad cravings once in a while, my pdoc had no problem doubling the dose.

Tomorrow I call him and report all these symptoms. I was just wondering in the meantime if anyone else using Naltrexone has run into this sort of thing before.

Thanks,
Reggie BoStar

I took naltrexone 25mg for about a month along with ongoing prozac 20mg several years ago. I remember it made me feel kind of relaxed and socially comfortable, but other than that it didn't do much else for me except block the buzz I had hoped to get from a glass of wine. I probably should have gone up to 50mg and stayed there longer. Side effects of nausea were intense at first, but after a week or so there were no side effects at all.
