straterra update

Posted by linkadge on November 15, 2006, at 12:02:55

I tried stratera alone after discontinuing a few herbs I tried.

In short it is a good med, it does help mind racing, and helps with focusing on one thing at a time.

I don't think I can continue it though, as it it really makes me feel uncomfortable all day. It gives me mild chest pain, as well as the fact that I can sense my heart beat *all the time*.
It makes my heart seemingly shorter and sharper.

Oh well, I can't say don't give it a try though.

After it wears off, I don't reall crash, but I feel totally "depleated". Like adrenal exhaustion after a very stressfull event.

yes this is a problem with Strattera.

It does not resemble nortriptyline in the least in this respect.

It is good for focus, though.

I'm truly sorry it wasn't a better med for you, link. SEs s*ck.

May I ask what dose you took, and for how long you took it, if you want to say?

Actually, I have to ask you: how long did you stay on it? It seems to me you just posted a few days ago that you were going to start it? I don't know that that's long enough to know how it would really work out for you.

I'm sorry to say this, Link, and I may be totally off base here, but you posted before starting it that you were worried about cardiac side effects. I wonder if your worry about them has made you more aware of your heart beat, rather than the drug itself doing it? I know it feels horrid to me when someone suggests something like that to me -- but often, if I'm honest with myself, that's what's going on for me. My own worries cause a lot more problems, cause me to imagine problems that might not be there, or might not be nearly as bad as I think they are.

I know you're not fond of drugs, and combined with what you've already mentioned being worried about with Strattera, I wonder if you're not doing yourself a disservice by discontinuing so rapidly? It might be a good tool for you, if you give it a little more of a chance.

Whatever you decide, though, I wish you the very best.

I went up to 20mg for about 3 or 4 days. Its the same problem I have with all drugs affecting norepinephrine uptake. Doc took me off 75mg of effexor because of altered cardiac function.Same thing with tCA's and ritalin.

Id rather not risk it. I don't think it will go away cause effexor and TCA tachycadia was consistant. I don't normally have cardiac compaints these days. Esp since starting omega-3, I don't even have racing heart during stressfull times. Straterra atually gave me chest pain, which stopped upon disc, and started again upon reintroduction.

Link then you're doing the right thing as the heart is nothing to mess with. Have you ever seen a cardiologist to rule out any heart problems just a thought. Love Phillipa

Yeah I have had ECG's done and have no heart problems. The issues I have with medications are specific to noradrenergically acting medications. It it noted that these medications can alter cardiac function due to their propensity to affect cardiac NE.

Did you ever end up trying Nortryptaline? Didn't it do funny things to your heart? Its a powerful NRI.

I thought you were prescribed nortryptaline, and you just took one dose. Maybe I am thinking of a different babbler.

Yeah, pamelor is nortryptaline.

It can be both sedating an stimulating.

I guess you never noticed any cardiac stuff then..
