Lamictal lowest dosage?

Posted by TrishP on November 7, 2006, at 6:50:58

What is the lowest dose you can start out on Lamictal?

I tried it a few times several years ago (the sample pack) and for the first 10 dyas it was ok then I started getting a weird feeling in my gums (it felt like my teeth were going to fall out) and slight blister like things on my gums so I had to stop.

It made me feel great.

I know we've heard it a million times, but I am very, very sensitive to meds and I am also a fast metabolizer.

I respond well to tiny doses. I wonder if I took a very small dose of Lamictal for a while if it work without the side effects.

I dont see why not, speak to your pdoc 1st but it is common practice for "sensitive" individuals like yourself to be titrated up in weekly 5mg dosages, this should hopefully enable you to get up to the level you were at and then by then hopefully increase further-its abit of a guessing game tho!!

what dosage were you getting results at??

I would try it again, and as you said, go slow and low. Instead of increasing every two weeks, try waiting 3 weeks and see what happens. Chances are you will get a better response witout the side effects this time. I got a fine rash when I started, but I stuck with it and it went away. I am a nurse and knew what to look for as far as the severe rash known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome. There is a 1% chance of this happening in general. Some doctors are too conservative and stop the drug at the sign of a rash. Many people have had this happen and try it again at a slower titration with success.

I agree and there is a childrens starter pack where it's in increments of l2.5mg to start. Good luck Trish Love Phillipa

Trish,

The slower you increase the dose the less likely you are to get dermatological problems.
