My Depression: Very low energy, overwhelming sadness and negativity, no motivation, anti-social, excessive sleep (12-14) hours a day, suicide ideation, anxiety, ruminations, anger and fear, overwhelming feeling of worthlessness, inability to take on daily responsibilites, low libido and an over-all lack of interest in life and all activities. In a nutshell: Hell on earth.

p.s. this is a small list..lol.

Ouch.

I'm glad you have been freed from these things. They really are shackles upon one's consciousness and mobility.

I share the same symtoms as you Scott. 100%
Have you tried Emsam yet? It's next on my list, and have seen some good responses from people on here w/ similar symptoms.

No. I am having a difficult time choosing between Emsam or going back to Nardil and trying to augment it with other drugs.

Have you tried any MAOI yet?

Hi Scott,
I haven't tried any MAO yet, other than oral Selegaline years ago to no effect. I think most pdocs today don't consider them much anymore, or just don't want to take the risk. I see a new pdoc on Sept. 11th, my first one in 3 years. Hopefully he is open to suggestions. I am not taking anything right now, how about yourself? I'm also considering ordering Tianeptine (Stablon), if I don't get the Emsam for some reason.

I'm currently taking:

Lamictal 150mg
nortriptyline 100mg
Abilify 10mg
Topamax 100mg
Lyrica 75mg

> I'm also considering ordering Tianeptine (Stablon), if I don't get the Emsam for some reason.

I keep forgetting about that drug. It's on my list, but I haven't spoken to my doctor about it yet.

I hope this new doctor works out well for you.

Scott,
do you have an epileptic condition as well? Three of the meds you take are used as anti-seizure meds as well as off label. I actually am on one medication, Keppra, which works great for my epilepsy. I don't know that it has any mood altering affect though. Maybe a mild stablizer.
I'm not sure where your located, but if it's the USA, you're gonna have to order the Tianeptine from overseas as it's patent has run out over here.

No. Just bipolar disorder.

I tried Keppra. I found it to be destabilizing and depressogenic at higher dosages while being somewhat antidepressant at lower dosages.

Lyrica made me feel kind of dopey and really impaired my memory for awhile today. I wasn't too happy with that. I hope this is just a passing side effect.

Thanks for the info on tianeptine.

Neurontin/Lyrica together

I've been taking Neurontin for several years with some minor success. About to try Lyrica. Do you think I need to stop the Neurontin first? Substitute a dose of Lyrica for the Neurontin? Take them both at the same time?

?

The Lyrica will replace the neurontin. Think of the Lyrica as a new improved neurontin, that is basically what it is. It is 3-10 times more powerful than neurontin. Lyrica mimics GABA. My prediction is eventually neurontin will become obselete, as Lyrica is so way more effective then neurontin, in all forms of treatment potential. I'm talking from experience as well, as i have been on both of these medications. For me, Lyrica works very well, neurontin did nothing for me.

To Scott:

Do you intend to keep trying Lyrica until high dose whatever what ? Because that's what I would recommend you to do. About 6 months ago I tried Lyrica at low dose and I hated it so I stopped it. Since then I gave Lyrica a another trial at high dose because I heard high dose was feeling different (more energy etc) .. for me it made the difference between a med that was making me feel bad and one that is actually changing (saving) my life.

Wish you best luck with Lyrica,
Marty

Yes. I intend to ask my doctor to continue to increase the dosage of Lyrica. I mentioned to him 600mg last time I saw him. He has a few patients on 300mg. I have an appointment with him later in the week. I took 75mg yesterday. I had less cognitive side effects today. So far, so good.

I have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and have been taking Nurontin for 3 years.
I just started taking the Lyrica yesterday (75mg).
I had my second dose today (75mg).
I hope it doesn't cause me to gain weight.

Also just to note,i was doing absolutly horrable today, and i tried to think back to how i was doing quite manageable all week and i went out and refilled my nuerontin.

I cant be sure of this, but i have recently used with parnate a partial approx 300 mg nuerontin/partial depakote approx 150 mg .

Drink some caffiene with this to fight off the more initial sedation however afterward if u sit u feel a sense of calm, from this point using pebble sized pieaces of klonopin or vice cersa soda for residue anxiety or sedating is optional, this seems to depend on the time of day, morning commonly would require a bit of the benzo afternoon im fighting off sleep so i dont have any problems there.

Im gonna lower parnate and use this anxiety method in between more, perhaps the too meds in conjunction have a synergy?

I just know benzos are really in my opinion best used in the smallest dose possable,in increments as needed,i find taking a benzo at a higher dose truly is not meeting my needs at all neiter for anxiety or depression, least now all my limbs are loose i can move freely,i dont feel that axle attatchment to my spine anymore, and at this point its alll i want. im fine with how i feel this very second,STAY STAY STAY but it wont.

Anyway too early to tell but i do suspect this combo was reasonbable for me having a fair week last week so that would give it a weeks fair play under ones belt.

How many people are so exhausted playing this game......whew.

Ok. Here's one. How about anorgasmia?

It is taking me longer and longer to reach orgasm as I increase the dosage of Lyrica. Hopefully, it will be a temporary effect.

How about adding Wellbutrin? If the problem continues? But I seem to remember that you did not react well to it and it made you "worse". Hope I'm wrong about that.

I have noticed lowered libido but not too bad.
When I adjusted to the new dose things worked pretty normally.

This has been a very good med for me-it's just rather touch some times.

I think you will find luck with this one,Scott.

Peace,
Kaye

Hi All.
Wikipedia mentioned that amantadine (Symmetrel) is used somtimes to treat anorgasmia from SSRI's. I took Symmetrel briefly for EPS from Risperdal, and the drug agreed with me, and didn't cause more problems than it solved. I'm not sure Lyrica is a SSRI, however.

Hi Scott,
I just started Lyrica last week. I couldn't really tell you yet from experience. Some of the stuff that I have read about Lyrica here and there on the Web was that at low doses it could cause some sexual dysfunction, but that at higher doses it was prosexual? (600mg and up) I am only at 300mg alternating with my neurontin currently. I hope this medication gives you some relief!!

Hey Scott!
I am taking 300mg total per day 150mg 2x daily.
However, I am experimenting with my dosage and timing.

I wish it didn't have such a short half life. Every 6 hrs is a pain.
It has been a good med for me all in all.

The sedation and goofy feeling really does pass and when I take it before bed I sleep sooo well. I wonder how much of the improvements I have experienced with Lyrica are attributable to simply getting some quality sleep ?

Hows it going with you?
I am looking forward to detecting some perky-ness in your posts soon!

Peace,
Kaye

Hi Scott,
This site had the mechanism of action of Lyrica-http://www.lyricapro.com/cwpb/appmanager/lyrica/lyricaDesktop?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=lyrica_pro_mechanismofaction

And here it is touted as a replacement for Neurontin
http://www.drugdevelopment-technology.com/projects/pregabalin/

Thought the info on the Neurontin comparison might be helpful :-)
