Thanks MB. Maybe I will look up a prescription antihistamine and see ... It's not that I don't believe you, it's just that I have to be 100 percent sure.

Hugs,
Maxie

Phillipa, you know that is like telling an alcoholic to stop drinking.

I belive it can taken daily in the long term, something to do with histamine blockers, which is actually one of the theories of SSRI weight gain. But it's very very minimal, nothing like the strange mechanisms of SSRI's or TCA's which cause weight gain. It's such a small amount that would be gained if activity and diet stayed the same, that you probably will not gain, but rather end up eating slightly less or working a little harder in the gym if you're someone who watches their weight.

Thanks for the information. I'm anorexic. Okay, no more Benadryl. I can't afford to gain any weight. I need to LOSE weight.

No you don't need to cut out Benadryl if it helps you! It doesn't permanently alter metabolism. You won't gain weight since you don't eat much to begin with. I believe this is one of those instances where, if taken daily for years, a person may gain a a pound or two if diet weren't altered to make up for the difference.

I understand the concern about any change in weight though. I'm personally very sensitive to this too, since I've experienced large amounts of weight gain from AD's. I'm not trying to deminish the slight propensity of meds to cause weight gain. I'm really not certain of the mechanisms, but I know it's not like the body altering power of some psych meds. This won't happen with you.

What do you take Benadryl for anyway? Seasonal allergies? Maybe you could get a prescription for Singulair, which isn't an antihistamine, but blocks leukotrienes. Just a thought.

I take between 75 mg to 200 mg for sleep.
