Topamax stomach pain and gas?

Posted by lookingforthelight on July 5, 2006, at 17:08:19

Has anyone had any side effects of severe gas while taking topamax? I have been taking it for about 3 weeks now, I am at 50 mg and waiting for the side effects to subside before going up, I have noticed positive effects on my mood so I want to stick it out. BUT i am constantly burping, so gassy and so uncomfortable. Would love anyone to share if they have had any similar experience.

same but at 25 mg. couldn't even get thru day 2.

i'm astounded by anyone getting to even 100 mg., much less the common 200-400 mgs.

also wiped me out with fatique. that's almost the only time any med has done that.

but since i don't have bipolar (or overweight issues any longer,) thankfully, i have no reason to ever try dopa-max again.

that's all i've got for you. good luck in whatever you decide.

I am now up to 150mg Topamax day for migraine prevention & mood stabilation (primary dx Bipolar). I started out on a very small dose w/ a LOT of side effects, but as the migraines were taking over my life, I decided I HAD to give this a fair try. I stuck w/ it, and am glad I did. I adjusted after about 2 weeks. When it stopped working, I gradually had to titrate up, then I had problems above 150mg, so we moved back down - and 150 seems to be my magic number. I will still get a migraine on occasion, but only under severe stress or when ovulating. As for how it enters into my overall cocktail of psych meds, I am clueless. btw, I am slightly clueless, in general, in that I have some cognitive impairment, but as to how much can be attributed directly to the Topamax & how much can be assigned to the variety of other meds or the combination of them all - only God knows. If you feel you may benefit, and your pdoc does too, then hang in if the side effects are tolerable & you've discussed them w/ her/him. Do have the discussion, though. The benefits have to outweigh the risks, in my opinion. A
