Dr. wants me to try Wellbutrin BUT I have not had too much sucess with other types of Antidepressants in the past and had to stop them. My concern is I may be BP, I am not certain nor is my Dr. certain. I suspect I may have had hypomanic or mild epsidoes.
Is there harm in putting me on something like Wellbutrin because it can be so stimulating? Was thinking I should begin Lamictal first but Dr. said you don't want to stabalize your current mood like you are or do you? He said to start the Wellbutrin first but I understand Lamictal can offer some Antideppresant affects as well correct? Starting the Lamictal would be getting a mood stabilizer in place first but I know from past experience that it takes weeks and weeks to get up to a good dose.
I am seeking advice and answers from people who have been down this road or can relate and anyone who can just over their knowledge would be appreciated.

Why can't you take them both at once? Since the lamictal starts so low a reasonable dose of wellbutrin wouln't hurt. And wellbutrin is good with bipolar. Why not ask you pdoc about this? love Phillipa

I may be wierd but Lamictal made me truly hypomanic within a couple of days at only 12.5 mg. I had 3 solid days of hypomania that probably would have turned sour shortly had I not had to discontinue due to a bad reaction to the med.
Now I know what people mean when they speak of hypomania.
Wellbutrin is not overly stimulating to me. In fact anything over 150 mgs can make me despondant. The very first time I took it i had a period of just feeling very good. Not hypo just...happy and bright. Now, at best it evens out my moods.
I would go with your Dr's suggestion.

Kaye boy are we opposites. I took l50 of wellbutrin for one week and it put me in the hospital it made me hypomanic. Lamictal don't feel a thing. Love Phillipa

Wouldn't it be nice if we could devise some sort of an algorithm based on our responses to various med?
Like-Lamictal=Hypomania go to topomax
Wellbutrin=mania go to PaxilWe have tried so many of these psyche meds seems like a profile of our neurology would arise if only a Dr. would examine them. It must mean something when a mood stabelizer shoots you to the moon or a stimulant makes you sleep all the time.
Seems like Dopamine makes me a straight arrow and NA is zippy to me (but too much of either makes me feel like I am a nail being slowly pounded into the floor)
Seratonin seems to give me more of what I don;t need-apathy, no drive..just rather limp.Oh. Benedryl was administered to me after my c-section and made me feel higher than a kite. Not sleepy at all-but very happy and loving. Like I was on ecstacy. Weird. The morphine just made me itch and feel dull. I thought the morphine was the good stuff. Well, it's benedryl for me!!

I think it is strange that we have a seemingly marked difference in response to meds although I think our symptomology is similar.
PTSD, fatigue, anxiety and mild deression if I am remembering correctly. We have these in common?

Kaye the new pdoc where we moved said MDD and he was leaning toward tx resistant depression one of the new categoris of bipolar is not tx resistant depression. Love Phillipa
