Anyone taken both generic and brand name Prozac?

Posted by bassman on July 1, 2006, at 17:30:55

Remember me? I'm the one that's always making disparaging comments about generics. But...Lilly doesn't make 10 mg Prozac tablets, I'm told (they do make the capsules) and so my last mail-order arrived as three months of generic fluoxetine. I've been taking brand name Prozac. Things are sort of working in terms of meds, and so I don't want to rock the boat-I'm thinking of re-ordering and paying the extra money. Anyone taken both/have any insights as to equivalence?

I don't know but would like to know and are the legitimate mail order any good. Save money or anything with a prescription of course. Love Phillipa ps legal is okay right?

This is a prescription from my health care provider, Caremark, not from the internet. I don't know if those sites are legal...esp. the ones that sell controlled substances.

I've taken the 10mg flx tabs manufactured by Par, and they seemed potent enough. It's hard to say -- I was taking the tabs along with 20mg Teva flx caps, and then later along with desipramine -- but I think the Par tabs were better than the Teva caps.

I don't think your brand loyalty is irrational, especially when it comes to Prozac. There is a difference.

When I used to take prozac I never seemed to get the same brand each time I renewed my prescription. One time it would be Boots (the big pharmacy chain here) own brand prozac, another time some generic or other, occasionally genuine prozac brand prozac. Im sure once I even got some of one brand and some of another at the same! I never noticed a difference between them. Buns

i do know that merck medco's supplier of generics is useless. (understatement). whether it's TEVA, i have no clue. sorry.

i agree that PAR is the best generic.

i'm no longer sure if there's as difference in efficacy, due to GI SEs that never subside (brand or generic) trumping that for me.
