Having a hard time....

Posted by TrishP on June 28, 2006, at 7:08:41

I've been trying to get on a mood stabilizer but have really been having a hard time. I refuse to take lithium (I am about 40 lbs overweight now). Zonegran made me depressed and itchy, Lamictal was great until it gave me sores in my mouth (very strange).

I do like a Wellbutrin combo. Cymbalta worked ok (not at great as Effexor). but, Cymbalta give me terrible heartburn and acid reflux.

Are there other drugs like Cymbalta and Effexor that effect those brain chemicals?

I feel so nice and happy when I take those meds.

Hi Trish...

You might want to look at the tricyclics, esp. Nortriptyline, in combo with a newer serotogenic drug. Now I know you are concerned with the weight gain, but I don't think you would gain anymore than any of the other meds. (i.e. effexor, cymbalta, etc.) Watch out for anxiety triggered by Welbutrin.

Good luck..
Jay
