Question about Prozac

Posted by honeybee on June 14, 2006, at 13:47:21

I just started on 10 mg. of prozac. This is just day two, so it's really probably too early to tell, but I'm just wondering how the dosing works with this, what to expect, how far one can go up.

It was rather disconcerting going back on ADs, but here I am. And I'm hopeful.

How long might it take to kick in? (A couple of weeks?) I would love to get my brain back. I feel like it's been gelled in ice since I got depressed, and my memory, verbal dexterity, attention, have all been frozen since...

Thanks, all.

Hi honeybee,
I can only speak for how prozac affected me but ..it took me farther away from thr real me.It seemed to block out all bad thoughts.I found myself doing things i would not do normaly and quit fast.
good luck

Hi, KayLen,

Actually, that wouldn't be so bad right now. The "real" me that I'm dealing with is a basketcase full of brain cramp and stultifying depression, crying all the time, etc. Whatever "brain event" I'm having, it needs some serious intervention, and if it can help, I'm there for it?

Did you go on to use a different antidepressant? If so, what was it? How far did you go up in dose?

Thanks,

honeybee

Honeybee,
I have used it many times for a few days to "jumpstart" me out of the deep damp muddy and dark well. anything almost has to be better than the land of no hope...I wish you everything good .always!

Hi honeybee,
I tryed many many things after that...could not find any antidepressant that I was happy with..
I take xanax and i believe it has an antidepressant of some sort.
i did not enjoy being on the "Not-so-merry-go-round-of medicines" I hope it is better for you!

Actually xanax does have some antidepressant factors. I tried prozac when it first came out. And I really wasn't depressed . The xanax was working fine. It stimulated me too much and after three days of panic gave it up. But that was at 20mg. The pdoc at the time was good and wanted me to continue every three days. I said no. But I regret they didn't have baby doses then as it probably would work. It builds up in your system. In a few days you should know if it is working or not. Maybe if no raise the dose. Love Phillipa
