lamictal for depression

I do not have a bi-polar disorder but my pdoc is considering lamictal, anyone else have any success with that drug for atypical depression.

absolutely Rachel,
it has been a life saver for me, the only medication that has abated my depression. I have a very anxious depression and it helps balance and calm me down. Hang in there,
mogger
I am on 300mg a day with no side effects.

Absolutely Phillipa, atleast for me, it is the only anti - depressant that has worked for me with my anxious depression. I tried different meds for 8 years before trying Lamictal,

Mogger thanks I will ask to try that as my old pdoc wanted to augment luvox with it. My fault I said no. I was afraid of the rash so said why try trileptal. Little did I know that they don't act in the same way. I thank-you again. Fondly, Philllipa

I tried it for TRD depression. It is used "off label" for depression quite a bit. It didn't help me, but apparently it helps many. And the upside was that I didn't have any s/e's even on a higher dose.

Seems worth a try.

Best,
EE

Hi,
I take Lamictal (75 mg) to augment Nardil (52.5 mg) for treatment of atypical depression. So far so good. I'd actually like to consider increasing Lamictal and decreasing Nardil at some point, but not at the moment. Right now keeping status quo is a better choice for me.

I found Lamictal slightly activating when I first would increase the dose and when combined with the highest dose I've taken of Nardil. But that seemed to pass, and I use Ambien for insomnia.

Hi,

I tried it on it's own for Months and didn't feel anything on it either bad or good. Didn't really feel like I was taking anything.

Mindyou I would consider trying it again to augment this Seroxat which isn't working very well right now.

To Mogger - Lamictal Question

Hi Mogger,

How long before the lamictal kicked in and at what dose?

Also, are you taking anything with it?

Thanks....Denise

denise, it was added to Zoloft, remeron and zyprexa and it has helped boost them all for me. I am at 300mg a day, it took about 4 weeks to begin to feel a calmness in my brain.
hope this helps,
mogger

Thanks Mogger, did it take you four weeks at 300mg to feel an effect and did it make you feel drowsy and a bit sad initially?

Also what dose of Zyprexa do you take?

Denise,
I take 5mg of zyprexa, only a small dose. I have ocd so what I remember about going on the lamictal was that my ocd thoughts get pretty intense as well as my depression, and then my mind would sort of relax for a bit. That is the thing that sticks out the most. It stops my rapid cycling.

Hi Mogger,

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. It takes 10mg of Zyprexa to lift my depression. The lamictal just seems to be making me tired right now. I'm hoping this will pass as I increase the dose. I have a feeling though that it won't.

Denise,
hang in there. I feel tired and irritable going on a new med always, like zyprexa, remeron, buspar and lamictal, but that subsided.

Mogger,

Thanks for the encouragement, did it take four weeks from reaching the 300mg or did it take four weeks from starting Lamictal at the initial dose.

Sorry if I seem a bit stupid.

Thanks...Denise

Denise,
No problem at all! I think it was only when I was close to the 300mg that I started to feel the benefits. I think I was a little agitated and irritable going up. As you know going up on it was a slow process. Unfortunately I can't exactly remember everything though,

Thanks. It's just that it seems to be making me feel very tired and flat at the moment and I've never had this problem with Zyprexa.

Anyway Thanks Again.

Denise
